Elysium, The Movie

I just saw a sneak preview of the movie, Elysium, and thought it was a gory and violent but with GREAT FX and it's a movie that MSNBC would give 5*, but FOX NEWS would give 0*!

I thought Jodie Foster's performance as the 'bad guy' was very good and she was DEFINATELY channeling Christine Legarde (Head of IMF). I also enjoyed Matt Damon's performance and man was he BUFF!

The themes of the movie are really spot on with regard to current World Politics, rich vs. poor, have vs. have not's, Welfare State vs. Unfettered Capitalism.

There were several scenes that are definitely homages to other SF films (one of the key fight scenes is straight from STAR WARS)

The movie is leaps and bounds superior to Oblivion (haven't seen After Earth).

    A must see.

I'm looking forward to seeing this movie. It reminds me of an anime movie I watched long ago called Battle Angel Alita. The premise of both movies has similarities.

I've heard nothing but bad reviews. Plot is shallow. You have to swallow a lot of stupid premises for any of it to make sense, they say. Kind of like his last movie District 9 which was the dumbest movie ever. Hollywood loves this guy for some reason and gives him big budgets so he doesn't have to edit his movies. Or find good scripts that make engage some thought.

Definitely looking forward to this movie.

I actually enjoyed District 9. I went in thinking it was probably going to be a dumb Hollywood film, but I loved the themes within the movie. It was also very timely because I had recently just watched a talk from Desmond Tutu on the Apartheid before watching the movie.

Reviews seem very mixed. Some find fault with Jodie for not being convincing enough in her role and others fault with Matt for being too much of a nice guy.

And then there is what I'd like to call the Wall Street Journal reviews: Those who find fault with the whole premise of the movie. These people see nothing wrong with the rich living on a nice space station while the rest of society suffers. If the poor want to come to space they should work hard to earn it after all!

I'm gonna pass. I don't remember or even think about these SE movies 10 minutes out the door. A friend even feel asleep in the last Batman movie. However Im still at least thinking about Blue Jasmine a week later.

I'll probably watch it because I like science fiction. That said, most science fiction movies just seem to be action movies with an exotic setting, and that I do not like. This looks like it has plenty of mindless violence, but at least there might be some social commentary in there too. And I always love it when they have rotating space stations--it's realistic and it looks really cool. Try as I might, I did not enjoy District 9, though, so I'll just have to wait and see.

I'm looking forward to watching this movie. I wish he would make a sequel for District 9 too.

I've seen some "Huffington Post" reviews too. They were disappointed that the last half of the movie was all action and no more social commentary.
