How do you know if you're crazy or not?

Sometimes I worry that I might have an undiagnosed mental disorder, my reasoning is, if I had it my entire life, how would I be aware of it because since I never experienced life without it, it is what I now consider "normal".

Like for example, what if a person has been depressed their entire life, and at age 35 is given an antidepressant for a condition that isn't depression(as antidepressants are used for other things too) and the medication also cures his depression and life is brighter than he realised and wasn't aware that what he considered normal thought processes were in fact "not normal".

What is the line between sane and insane?

How can doctors tell if a person is crazy or not?

Like for example, if I have a hard time concentrating or displaying self control, have I a mental disorder or am I just lazy? whats the difference?

ROTFL.. You still have 2-4 more years before your frontal lobes are fully developed.

..Till then..everything will seem really really intense..

Everyone eventually goes crazy to some extent. That's what life is designed to do. If you're not going crazy, you're not paying attention.

I think we can, but most of them don't know how to or just ignore it.

if everyone in the world can examine themselves whether they're crazy or not, then no one would be crazy, right?

Well... what's crazy to you may not be to others!

I think it all comes to the point of deciding/judging(having this ability) on what's right and what's wrong.

You're allowed to be as crazy as you want as long as you don't commit bodily harm to yourself or someone else.

You may not be aware of yourself, but you'd notice others around you not being compatible with your presence. Does everyone around you irritate you?

i2ci2i saidWhat is the line between sane and insane?

There's no line. Insanity doesn't even have a clinical definition. Disorders are difficult to fully delineate, but a cluster of symptoms points the clinician in the general direction. They wing it--albeit in an educated way--prescribing treatments until something "sticks."

i2ci2i saidHow can doctors tell if a person is crazy or not?

Sometimes you spend five minutes with someone and you call it. Sometimes five years. However, nobody is ever classified as "crazy."

You could be ADHD. Or you could be lazy. Get an opinion from a professional.

If you really think you're crazy, see a psychiatrist of course

I think my favorite Alice In Wonderland quote Said by Cheshire cat was,"We're all mad here. I'm mad. You're mad!" He said this after catching up with her and supposedly, everyone was crazy in the land to him. I'm not sure what it meant but it seemed kinda nonsense, That we're all mentally crazy.

I asked my doctor if I was crazy once. I actually said that it was OK if he thought I was, I would agree with him.

He told me that if you have to ask if you are crazy, you probably aren't. lol.

    Good guide:

People who run around and announcing how crazy they are
    are NOT crazy

People who don't think they are Crazy, ARE

Much of what we think of as sanity is built around concepts such as reality testing and forming 'consensus' with others. We all agree these shapes we're reading have meaning but the meaning isn't in the shapes, but the minds that read them. How does that work, exactly?

When I expressed similar concerns as the OP regarding my sanity around age 10 or 11, my mother, ever there to provide comfort, explained, "You're not crazy, you just see things that aren't there."

    icon_eek.gif

Even then I felt fairly confident that this was more an expression of my mother's own denial than any verification of my sanity. It wasn't that I saw things that weren't 'there'; rather, I saw things she could not accept.

Now I've lived long enough to be quite certain that everyone is in denial. Like the citizens of the Matrix who never feel the 'itch' to question what it is, the truth of our situation being something they (we) just can't handle. It annihilates us.

I'm totally serious about this. No one wants to know the truth. Everyone is perpetually distracting themselves with the many 'dalliances' and 'entertainments' of life. It is a rare human being, indeed, who is willing to swallow the red pill... or who is willing to slice through that illusory, imagined fiction of that 'self' we so cling to and pride ourselves on, and stand naked on the edge of the abyss.
