Former 49ers quarterback Steve Young gave THIRTY-SEVEN THOUSAND BUCKS to the no campaign. Here's why it's huge: Not only is he a Mormon, not only did he go to BYU, not only does he represent the tough-guy NFL, but the guy is a descendant of Brigham Young.

Bravo Steve. I knew you were less evil than Joe Montana! (sorry, Bengals fan!).

"UPDATE: Just to clarify, the check from the Youngs had Steve's wife's name on it. Although she did say, "We believe ALL families matter and we do not believe in discrimination, therefore, our family will vote against Prop. 8." We assume that Steve is included in "our family," thus meaning he too opposes Prop 8."

WTF? ...She opposes it, but she paid for it??? ...What a bunch of two faced crap...trying not to be slapped with the bigot label that she (they) so deserve.

    I'm confused, Caslon....

the Youngs gave $37K to the No on 8 campaign, not to the Yes on 8 --

so if Steve Young is part of that family and was against Prop 8 (and his wife pays the bills or signed a donation check) -- where's the two-facedness in that? Did you or I misread this?

icon_eek.gificon_question.gif and "thumbs up" too! Now ya got it!

Ya know, I'll bet there were lots of mistaken votes because of the [deliberate] confusion about what a "Yes" vote meant (or a "no" vote) --

A brother of Steve Young's wife Barbara is gay (Steve's brother-in-law).

"In an e-mailed statement to the gay rights group Equality California, Barbara Young wrote: "We believe all families matter, and we do not believe in discrimination, therefore, our family will vote against Prop. 8."

In a follow-up e-mail sent to CBS 5 early Saturday, Barbara Young offered an additional explanation.

"To expand on my earlier email, I am very passionate about this issue and Steve is completely supportive of me and my work for equality. We both love our Church and are grateful that our Church encourages us to vote our conscience. Steve prefers not to get involved politically on any issue no matter what the cause and therefore makes no endorsement," she wrote."
