Minneapolis Gyms

  • Aug 10, 2013 9:20 PM GMT
I've been researching gyms in the city and I was wondering if you MPLS guys have any thoughts on the subject. I don't want to join a clubby gym but I also don't want to join a place that would feel uncomfortable
    Thanks!

Minneapolis is the home of Life Time Fitness. If you want a country club gym, that's equipped to the gills, and has exceptional service, Life Time should be your first choice.

    Hey mate,

I am a member of LifeTime Athletic in Houston, and yes, when I am in Minneapolis, I enjoy going to the LifeTime gyms in Minneapolis. I am a Diamond member, but there are a few Diamond level gyms there that are a little disappointing, especially downtown. My preferred location downtown is in Target Centre.

    Cheers,

    Sean

I don't know but I wanted to take this opportunity to acknowledge how hot the guys are in Minnesota and Michigan.

Finally a constructive response to someone who asked specifically to NOT be pointed towards a "clubby" place. Thank you!

    Maybe you should define "clubby".

I work out the YMCA. I have worked out at the YWCA. I have worked out at Lifetime and the Calhoun beach club, and the UMN rec center. All offer different things.

I think all are comfortable and have everything that a person needs. If you want to have access to quality group fitness you should definitely try a few places out. I know the FIRM offers some excellent classes, but in my opinion the people there are a little more gym-cult like. Its nice for accountability, but from an outsider's perspective it seems little insane and incestuous. I know quite a few people (gay) who are working out with Xfit and seem to like that too.

I did two interviews in Minneapolis and went to Lifetime as a guest while I was there and LOVED it. When I went to Columbus, OH for an interview, I sought out Lifetime and went as a guest there.

I wouldn't use CLUBBY to describe it. It's upscale and then some, and I really, really liked that. (If only I could afford the dues if I lived there!) But clubby, no, not like a country club or somewhere like that, at least not what I saw in six or seven trips to two of their locations.

Best suggestion is to try it. If you can afford it, it's the Lexus of gyms.

Lol. The Firm is the most "clubby" gym in Minneapolis. You have to be an A list homo just to learn the secret location.icon_lol.gif

There are several lifetime fitness clubs in the Minneapolis metro area with varying degrees if amenities. The Firm doesn't have a pool, steam room or whirl Pool. There are LA Fitness, Anytime Fitness and Los Campeones Gym.
Any of which is probably an adequate gym. I work out a Lifetime fitness because I like having a pool, steam room, sauna and whirl pool plus the guys are hot and often friendly.
