Gym Saunas - are there rules?

Tonight I went off on the manager of the LA Fitness I go to. I showered and went to the sauna to find three guys sitting, sweating profusely - fully dressed including shoes. Another guy was in his boxers. For me shoes in the sauna is a no no. Why guys wear them baffles me. But tonight as they got up they were leaving behind puddles of sweat. And other guys came in AND SAT IN IT!! WTF!!??

I've mentioned it to management and it went absolutely nowhere. Tonight I almost yelled at the night manager about how disgusting it is and that rules need to be posted and enforced. He just stared at me and said he'll take care of it.

I'm just curious to know if I'm the only guy who can't stand the lack of respect in the saunas in America. In Europe people know the rules. You go into a sauna NAKED and sit on a towel and leave your shower shoes or flip flops on the floor.

    ok, vent over....

We have to wear clothes in the sauna because of the gays. They might look at us.

The sauna at my gym is usually very clean and has the younger, conscious no homo type men in their underwear...otherwise, only the very older gentleman sit completely naked.

Very weird; I never would have guessed. I only run and haven't been to a gym in decades.

Maybe it's a generational thing. When I was in the Navy back in the 70s and was going to the gym everyone in the sauna was naked and sat on a towel.

Funny you mentioned LA Fitness. I once saw a guy doing his Crossfit exercises in the sauna at mine with 25 lb dumbbells and leaving them there for anyone to trip over.

At my gym, there are rules about showering and wearing a towel in the sauna, but some guys go in with underwear on or naked. Never seen anyone where shoes and clothes, though, that's a very odd thing to do.

The sauna and steam room at my gym are co-ed so there's no nakedness. Most guys wear shorts and sandals. What I dislike is guys who decide to turn either of these places into their personal workroom. They jump, wave their arms, breath like they're going to die...really, stfu I want some quietness here!

Oh man. I see some guys finish their workout, walk in the locker room, and head straight for the sauna fully dressed in their gym clothes. They sweat for a bit, come out, and then go back out on the gym floor to finish their workouts. WTF?

Mine too, though I may be one of those guys who do some light exercises/stretching in there (but only if I'm alone).
