Obama Administration Violating Law On Nuclear Waste Dump Decision Delay: Appeals Court

    http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/08/13/obama-nuclear-waste-dump_n_3749254.html

"Washington state Attorney General Bob Ferguson called the ruling good news for his state – particularly residents near the Hanford nuclear complex in central Washington, where millions of gallons of nuclear waste is stored in leaking underground tanks."

If nuclear waste cannot be stored safely, without it leaking underground, then we should not have nuclear plants. They should shut down any plants that are not making sure that their waste is being handled properly.

The administration has been violating laws for the past 5 years. NLRB "recess" appointments? Delay in implementing provisions of Obamacare? It's all out there. Are you upset that the administration violates the law, or that in just this particular case they violated a law that you believe in?

Just wondering if the person who created this topic would like to answer my question.

The UK now has thousands of cubic metres of highly radioactive waste. The industry has been working on a permanent storage solution since the late 1950s and has spent billions of pounds doing so; all funded by the taxpayer.

The result? No scheme has yet been found that will safely accommodate the waste for the minimum required time.

Even Cumbria, the county where the plant Sellafield holds much of this waste, and has the heaviest investment in the nuclear industry, recently voted no to a plan for long term, deep storage of the material; a plan so careful and cautious it was going to cost about five million pounds per pound of waste buried!

So the waste goes on accumulating in unsatisfactory temporary storage, costing a hundred million pounds a year to guard(and rising with the volume), and presenting a growing risk/hazard to the local area and the country as a whole.

The shocking thing is that all UK governments since the late '50s have quietly tolerated this failure.

Just a question Blakes7; would you and Anthony Weiner above you be keen for a tax increase to fund said storage site? Or should the owners of said nuclear plants use some of the profits they make from energy sales to fund the project?

The company that creates the waste has to dispose of it properly.

I once saw a documentary about the nuclear power industry in France, and how it cooled and re-used it's nuclear waste. It could only be re-used once. That doesn't eliminate the problem, but it should be looked at.

Strange that he went to the trouble to create this topic and hasn't bothered to join in on the discussion.

A few guys do that here. It's like a drive-by shooting. They post a story with an eye catching headline, and then run away.

So what? The topic subject should be more important than its messenger, yes? And that happens on both sides of this odd conservative lite vs conservative dense arena on RJ.

Sure, criticise the messenger, but don't use that to dismiss the subject matter.

Not really. I have a business and household to take care of...as well as a private life to live. I don't have time for long drawn out discussions. All of those issues you mentioned could be a separate thread. They are not black and white issues. I don't agree with many things Democrats or Obama do. But Republicans are even worse. I actually don't belong to either of those parties.

It seems kind of rude to just throw stink bombs and run away though. Maybe if you posted a few less topics, and stayed around to discuss the ones that you do post, it wouldn't make you appear so anti-social or afraid to engage in debate.

Sure, you guys call your Conservative Lite party Liberal, and say it's socialist etc. Highly amusing. icon_wink.gif

You could start by comparing the Democrats with, say, the French Socialists, or maybe the pre-1997 British Labour Party.

Neither major political party in the USA is left wing. Merely one is more right wing than the other.

If you're serious and correct, that's scary and breathtaking. I ask again, how far left can you go??

You've now posted twice more in this topic but haven't engaged in any discussion. Perhaps you missed my original question to you which is 100% related to the topic that you posted. I am reposting my comment and question to you here for your convenience:
