Has anyone sailed on the Blu Q out of Key West?

    Hi guys!

I'm on vacation in Key West in October and I'm looking into different tours/trips while I'm there. I love snorkeling and sailing. One of the boats is the Blu Q, an all-male trip.

    http://www.bluqkeywest.com/

Has anyone sailed with them? Thoughts? Opinions? Let me know what your experiences were with them, or any other of the snorkeling/sailing companies in KW.

    Thanks!

    Mike

Some guy on here recently posted that he vacationed in Key West. He was going on and on about how he is "well known" in "all the gay circles" down there and was bragging about how he got a $300 per night room for just $90 or something like that. If you can put up with his crass boasting, you might want to go through the topics to find him and send him an email.

Yes, I know ArtDeco is a fixture there. I was interested in other's opinions too.

You do rather give away your sock with comments like that. Your personal slams directed at me are almost verbatim from your former banned RJ account.

This is about the third time you've used nearly the same phrases with me as that banned member, as well as in political thread discussions, in the month you've been here. Really remarkable, since you joined after he was removed from the site, and you're not only quoting him, but on topics that predate you.

Now unless you've specifically gone back to research his threads (difficult since his screen name was deleted before you joined), how would you be able to parrot his words, and know the site history? Maybe you believe in channeling the departed. icon_rolleyes.gif

You'll need them, because the blu Q cruise isn't one we do. We're not much into small water craft, about once a year for a KW sunset cruise is enough for us. Our favorite KW schooner is the classic Western Union, but they don't have all-gay cruises as far as I know.

    http://schoonerwesternunion.org

Also look for Bone Island events for gay nudity at different sites. We don't do those, either, we're too old & ugly, a younger man's activity. But you have a good body, you might look into it. You just missed a big event there in July, with coordinated activities in different parts of Key West (some pool and foam party pics at the link are from the gay hotel where we always stay), but I believe you can find smaller events at other times.

Thanks for the links Art. The nakedkeywest.com one doesn't show any events for the week I'm there, 10/19-10/26, which is the week of Fantasy Fest. But there are plenty of other things going on that week!

Right now I'm researching the sailing/snorkeling. My dilemma is that I really enjoy snorkeling, having gone several times during my trips to Hawaii previous years. And while an all-male cruise might be fun I'm more interested in seeing the living reef than a grope-fest. That's why I'm asking for insight from anyone who might have been on the Blu Q.

    Peace.

Isn't he? Never any help to fellow RJers, yet never missing a chance to slam anyone who tries to be helpful. icon_razz.gif

Sorry I can't be of more specific help for your interest areas. We don't snorkel. And I don't think we'll be in KW while you are. Definitely there Nov 16-20, maybe longer past Thanksgiving, and looking at the first week in October. But unfortunately not for your dates. icon_sad.gif

We've done Fantasy Fest before, a great event. We've voted for King & Queen, and the gay owner of a B&B where we've stayed was King 2 years ago, lovely guy. But you need to register to vote, I think you pay something, or are given VIP status, as we were.

The Fest commands the highest room rates, though, why we ordinarily avoid it, being poor. I'm impressed you could be there during that time.

Key West has a dozen different room rates throughout the year, seasonal & event, and we hopscotch ourselves to get the cheapest off-rates. It's exactly 193 miles from our door to our preferred hotel, just a few easy hours, so we can go at the drop of a hat.

And sometimes we get emails of special rates, when a gay hotel is underbooked for a weekend. Usually just a 2-day notice, most people can't get a flight that quickly, or take the time away.

But WE can! Just hop in the car & go, we hardly need any clothes & packing. What we wear here is what you wear in KW, and where we usually stay you need no clothes at all. icon_wink.gif

SB mocks our getting $400 rooms for $90, but if he really lived in South Beach he'd be doing the same thing. Another fail on his part. icon_razz.gif

Sungod, I went on a day trip with them in July right on Independence Day. It was a blast. Captain Steve and Captain Clay were incredibly friendly. The first and second mates were hot as hell and kept everyone provided with liquor. They even made us lunch!

I was told that the snorkling was lackluster, but it wasn't the calmest day, and it was my first time so for me it was insanely fun.

Great trip. Great guys. Beautiful area. Total fun. Do it if you can.

The room is a bit pricey but it wasn't out of line with my budget- I'm staying at Casa Marina. I wasn't aware of Fantasy Fest until after I booked(and paid for- I prepay through Orbitz)the room. It just happened that that was the weeks I have my vacay. I'm actually spending the previous week(10/13-10/19) in South Beach and then flying down to KW on Sat. the 19th. I've never been to either SoBe or KW and have always wanted to visit both. I turn 50 on 10/17 so I'm going all out on this trip!

The question stands though; has anyone sailed the Blu Q?

Thanks TIB! That's the kind of feedback I'm looking for. I know with snorkeling that the weather can have a large effect on conditions. My last trip to Waikiki there was a adverse conditions a couple of days before my trip back to Turtle Canyon so the water was very murky. It wasn't as nice as previous trips, but I still got to hang out with the honu for a whileicon_biggrin.gif

Then maybe we can meet, just 35 drive miles away when you're on South Beach. Do PE me, perhaps we can do something.

It has been some time, but as I recall, snorkeling from town was sort of blah, because there's nothing there but sand. Took some scuba charters to get out to some reefs and wrecks that were quite good in May. The best snorkeling that we found from shore was in the passes between islands, farther up the highway. We just parked near the highway bridges. Plenty of coral and sea-life close-in if you don't mind free-diving to 20 or 30 feet.

Thanks. On the trips I have in mind you actually sail out to the reef. Usually different operators have designated 'spots' where they can moor for snorkeling. At least that's been my experience in other locales.

I've taken the Blue Q excursion before. It is aboard one of those twin hull type craft and it thankfully has an on board bathroom.

My outing involved a stop for some coral reef snorkeling. Next stop was lunch and drinks by a large sandbar where you could walk out and drink in the shallow water. Food was meat & veggie option sandwiches and drink choices were beer, wine, or sangria.

The Blu Q is clothing optional once away from the shore but they will ask everyone to cover up if another vessel comes close.

Wonderful crew! Sailed sunset cruises with them many times and snorkeling cruise twice. Once was my big 5-0 and my BF had arranged for a Key Lime Pie and champagne to be served after lunch!
The guys on the Blu-Q are great and easy on the eyes!

What are your dates in KW, and have you chosen a place? Still 10/19-10/26 during Fantasy Fest? Are you going alone? PE me if you prefer. You should enjoy Fantasy Fest.

We may be in KW in Oct, I was thinking perhaps the first week because we must be down again for the bike ride Nov 16.
