I know a lot of you are tired of reading these kinds of threads, but they really aren't gonna go anywhere cause this still one hell of an issue..

I travelled to NY two weeks ago and met up with a guy I've been chatting to on this site for a couple of months now and in America his classified as a “minority” and having had lived in Austarlia for 22 years of odd life I've just really come to terms with how obsessed the world actually is with trival things like categories.

When I walked into a bar with this guy we got a lot of awkward stares esepecially from other white guys my age who looked at me like I was crazy & I myself can be full of shit so I went right into their group holding this dudes hand and with all the arrogance in the world I went “ I can’t wait to get you home and love you up for two to three hours. I want to get you into double-digit orgasms ”.

To cut a long story, I just didn’t understand the Black experience in America and how different it is -- and most White people can’t.

You can’t understand it until you are with somebody who is Black, you then understand that, wow, what a different experience Black people and in particular Black gay men have to go through.

Navigating through life for me has never, ever been about categories, and what caught my attention about this guy wasn't the fact that his black, It was his intelligence and strength. I’ve never met a stronger person who stands by their will and their moral values & that's a turn on..His the president of the Black student union at Harvard and I've just been a silly White boy who didn’t understand or have compassion for these kind of things untill recently .

Interesting post, you seem like a nice person, here on RJ people will be racist and then say you have a " soft skin " if you call them out on it. I just make sure i always exude class. Thats the best way for me to combat them, I also dont agree with the statement " everyone is a little bit racist " thats incorrect. I'm not even a little bit racist.

weird, because I always thought NY was supposed be sort of very liberal and nobody gives a crap about what anyone else does ... but then, I've never been to NY ... Out here in the west they wouldn't even bat and eye ... there are so many multiracial mixed couples here nobody ever stands out in a crowd ... probably because there is so much military here

Thank you for saying "the world" and not "America."

Was it a red neck gay bar? (har)
Are you sure you were reading them correcty? I don't now why anyone would care, especially here in New York.

    Don't self guilt yourself OP.

If you want to have an understand of gay community and how things are done, there's book about it if you look it up. They'll teach you on how things are done and why. It's really important to know and by the looks of it, you don't have an understanding of the culture. You'll come to learn about the politics in America as you already have. We all do...

I'm asking a serious question, are you implying that racism is a part of the gay culture ? This is not a criticism question, but an informational one .... Is this something you read somewhere or an opinion of yours ?

Are you sure it was racism?
I understand the stares made you uncomfortable..

Are you sure it wasn't because you two made a hot couple?

.. New York gays are usually clique-y are you sure it wasn't because you were not a familiar face?

    ..Jealousy?

Don't get me wrong.. I'm not trying to down-play your experience... This is kind of odd for New York.

There's a Wikipedia article that clearly answers yes to your question.

Dude what you said is racist, you can't escape it, humans naturally feel more comfortable around their like, and are uncomfortable around people who are more different than they are, its a fact of life, and our culture poisons our minds with its all white hollywood, I am racist and I hate myself for it, im infected with it and I, like the most sensible people on this planet, are trying to get over it, but it will take a LONG time.

I can't say I understand the "black experience" or being gay and "of colour" in America, but my experience in San Francisco tells me that I was never subjected to any sort of racism because of my dark brown skin tone, in fact on the contrary, I was getting a lot of attention by men of all races, white black, latino, asian. The sort of attention I never get here in New Zealand!! Perhaps it could just be the people you encountered that time were just actually jealous of how hot you and your partner were.

You just grouped all the guys on this site who are not of your colour and stated that they are racist, that in itself is racist.

You can't generalise anybody different than you, saying japanese people are racist is racist in itself.

An individual or national government can be said of, but Im offended that you stated that the guys on RJ are racist, cause a lot aren't.

No where did i say " everyone ". I ment it exactly the way i said it ... now watch this video and learn icon_smile.gif

It's implied when you say "people" and not "some people" also saying that you are in no way racist upsets me because I have spent my whole life trying to fight my internalised racism and I can never completely eliminate it, I feel like a failure and a bad person when someone says they are in no way racist, because I feel that the phrase "we're all a little be racist" cuts people a break, lets them relax and breathe and not feel guilty about their failure to be 100% tolerant, it's like "everybody is late some times" or "we are all alittle weird" if yano what I mean.

I firmly believe that if I can't completely fight all my inner demons, nobody can, and admitting to having them in fact releases their hold on your psyche.

By denying that you have ANY racist feelings, you are in denial of your inner imperfection, let it out, admit you are, and then you are free of it, the most racist people never admit it, but the least racist usually admit to the dark side of their human nature, accept it and let it be, all the while trying to keep it to a bare minimum, knowing that it'll never fully leave them.

Kind of odd full stop. I know Americans can be weird about race but I've met loads at Mardi Gras over the years and all the guys from NY have been totally equal opportunity fuckers. Lucky you missed the cold weather here in Perth while you were gone ;)
