I spent my day in the city yesterday down at city hall.

On November 4, 2008, the state of Arkansas voted that gays and lesbians are unfit to foster or adopt children in their state. Yesterday, some people in NYC remembered that during the day of protest there.

"The measure, which passed with about 57 percent of the vote, simply banned unmarried couples from adopting children or from being foster parents. However, the measure's sponsor, the Arkansas Family Council, made it clear it didn't want gay and lesbian couples adopting and furthering the "gay agenda.""

Unfortunately there are gays who still live in JesusLand, on a crusade to reclaim that part of America from the slimy undeath of religious fascism.

God knows there are just throngs of good Christians opening up their quality homes to foster children. It is so good for the children there than children with bio parents wish mom and pop would die so they could go into the privileged foster parenting system.... grrrrr

That term "gay agenda" makes my skin crawl. Another example of P-A-R-A-N-O-I-A that has been a blight on progress in the USA since 1620. Maybe the ghost of my namesake Jonathan Edwards still holds sway in the good old US of A ("Man In the Hands of An Angry God" as grim a read as you can possibly imagine, I was subjected to it in 3rd year American Lit.).

I am not surprised at Arkansas voting to prevent unmarried couples from adopting foster children. What do you expect from a poverty-strickened, backward, rural southern state dominated mostly by ignorant rednecks. Most of these southern states will probably never come out of the dark ages thanks to the lunatic christian right.
