inthebackground saidlol. in order to be a man, someone has to have xy chromosomes. why can't it be that simple?

There is no money in that. You need to convince enough guys that they are not manly enough. icon_rolleyes.gif

On the surface, that site seems kinda douchy. But there are occasionally some decent articles about hygiene, etiquette, and general knowledge that all guys should know.

It's a bit more complicated than that; it ignores situations like XXY, etc. I'd prefer to require a functional sry gene that actually triggers the male developmental cascade, when we're looking for a biological definition of the male sex. When it comes to gender as a social construct, however, I'm less dogmatic: I simply take a man at his word that he is a man.

I'm not a rabid follower of Art of Manliness, but I've found some useful stuff on it over the years...things my dad never taught me (many of which I don't think he knows himself).

Terry Gross is terrific. What an unchivalrous thing to say. You have no art, man.

Is Terry Gross the one on the PBS radio show Fresh Air? I hate that show.

The show is on at minimum weekly and she acts like she's read the book by the author she's interviewing.

But you eventually have to realize that she couldn't be reading that many books and she has a large staff who read the books for her and then compile a list of questions for her to ask the author. Before they tape the show she has a meeting with the team who read that show's book and they coach her on what the book was about.

So fake. But so typical of radio and tv.
