Am looking for suggestions on good places to scuba dive in south east Asia. I am considering Malaysia or Thailand (west coast).

Phuket sounds like it is a good place to start live aboard a but the town itself does not sound good. Be goo to have some gay beach time or nightlife too.

Malaysia has an anti gay stance hence as much as I'd like to go there want to have relaxed gay fun too.

Palawan island in the Philippines is amazing. Thought it was better than Thailand.

Haven't been yet but Palau, Yap, and Truk are high on my list - maybe not exactly southeast asia (micronesia) but close enough if you're over there already.

Come to Malaysia's Sipadan located on the west side. My ex dives a lot with his friends in the past and many people said it is the best diving site they have ever been. Look it up on wikipedia or something, i'm not lying ;) Unfortunately, this town is rather sleepy with very low population. But all in all, it is a nice place especially if you are also looking for a get-a-way.

as for the anti gay stance, unfortunately, that is true... but we do still have several clubs and pubs catered to gays over the weekends. they even banned users from logging into RJ. I'm using a proxy service to log in now. IF the scene and partying is what u want, Thailand would be a better option.

I don't think Thailand is known for scuba diving. I would suggest Australia great reef. Indonesia and New Guinea are even better but you don't want to rent equipment out of there including Thailand. I would suggest only snorkeling trips in Thailand. I remember the water was not the cleanest down there kinda muddy and shallow especially Phuket.

Hey brother, i suggest you to visit Derawan island in Berau distric of East Borneo Province. Derawan island is one of the best place in the world for scuba diving, besides it's so clean and natural. if im not wrong it's on the third position of the best spot for diving in the world.
Or if you want you can also visit raja ampat island in papua, indonesia. It's on the first place of scuba diving spot in the world. You can google about it for more informations.

try visiting the Philippines. I was born and raised there and it has amazing scuba and diving spots being as the center of marine biodiversity.

The beaches there are pristine. Try Moal Boal in Cebu or Palawan.

    Try Boracay and Davao.

Its a very pocket friendly country to visit. like your 1 dollar is equivalent to 44 pesos. icon_smile.gif

There are even spots in the Philippines wherein you can swim along with Butanding or Whale Sharks...

Im sure youll love it there.

and yea, Filipinos are very hospitable and so you wont have a hard time getting along there icon_smile.gif
