Just when you thought things couldn't get more bizarre in this case:

"Bradley Manning, the Army private who was sentenced to 35 years in military prison for giving classified documents to WikiLeaks, told the “Today” show in a statement on Thursday that he wants to live his life as a woman."

So this was all an elaborate plot to get the government (and tax payers) to foot the bill for hormone therapy? icon_neutral.gif

Sounds like he's having a nervous breakdown, or attempting to appeal his sentence by reason of insanity.

gta5iscomingin25days saidso will he argue to be sent to an all female prison facility into a male penitentiary instead? it's very possible shockingly enough. in jersey, we actually had a former death row inmate who is transgendered (male to female) that is serving out her life sentence in the women's prison in clinton.

When I toured and was briefed on the operations at the Ft. Leavenworth Disciplinary Barracks (DB) as a Military Police Officer, there were 3 distinct confinement areas in the main compound: general population, female facility, and officers. I was surprised that the Officers (really former Officers) had a rather small building to themselves, with individual rooms and doors, not bars. Likewise the female facility was not as harsh as the general population unit, which was pretty grim, like the prisons you see in movies.

There was also a working farm unit a few miles away, where lower-risk inmates labored outdoors. In addition, the lowest risk prisoners could be on a daily work release program throughout Ft. Leavenworth. Some mowed the grass, trimmed shrubbery and did other post chores, while some actually bagged groceries at the commissary (Army supermarket). And if you drove your car to one side of the main DB you could have your car washed by the inmates.

The type of outside work duty was indicated by the color of the prison jumpsuit they wore. I haven't been there in some years, so some of these policies may have changed, but knowing the military I would expect things are much the same today.
