Men in tights - en pointe. NY - VA - TX - Canada

Trock's company historyThe comedy is achieved by incorporating and exaggerating the foibles, accidents, and underlying incongruities of serious dance. The fact that men dance all the parts--heavy bodies delicately balancing on toes as swans, sylphs, water sprites, romantic princesses, angst-ridden Victorian ladies--enhances rather than mocks the spirit of dance as an art form, delighting and amusing the most knowledgeable, as well as novices, in the audiences.

I saw the company perform in London - funny & wonderful.

Their technique is amazing -- it's not just ballet in drag (even though it has the comic aspect), but they really are great artists. I wish I could see them in person ....

They're Absolutely Fabulous! As dancerjack notes, they're superb dancers, artist(e)s and extremely talented.

Caslon, you probably know the troupe was heavily affected (like so many artists) by losses to AIDS in the 80's and 90's - luckily for us there are continuing replacements of the "stars" over the years. Bravo a tutti!

I wish they'd come to New Mexico -- yeah, that'll happen!

    A little late but....
What can I say about this troupe that probably has not been said before! They were AMAZING! Worth the price of the ticket by far and would highly recommend anyone seeing them - in fact I look forward to the next time I get the chance!
The humour of the group begins with the program. The list of dancers is a fictious list of made up Russian names and biographies. Very funny! This was followed by an introduction of the dancers being replaced that evening; another opportunity to repeat the names from the list!
The dancing was brillant! While there is obvious humour in the staging of the production it is clear these are dedicated men that have worked hard to perfect their craft. It was nice to note that a couple of the dancers have been with the troupe for decades! Modern dance is my favourite choice, but for one night ballet ruled!
If you haven't seen this group I would URGE you to take the leap and see them! You will not be disappointed!
