Being called weird seems to be used as a justification to pick on someone, which I find weird in itself, I always say people gotta check their priorities for what they look for in a person's character, and kind and decent are always number one for me, but it seems that if you are weird you are inferior to "normal" people, whatever that is. And that it's better to be an asshole than be "weird".

I reckon in 500 years men will say "WTF were they on about back then, WTF makes a person weird? WTF does weird even mean?"

Yes, we want someone happy and confident and not awkward, but calling someone weird is the last thing you should do if you want a person to stop being weird, it just makes them more discouraged and doesn't make them feel any better.

In my opinion, using the word "weird" negatively is just basically indirectly calling yourself a prick, anyone agree?

I think eccentric is a better word than weird.

I don't think I have done this sense middle school

Now if someone is a little too weird for my taste I avoid them...

I commonly use the word "strange". It's to pique interest though. Rarely used in a loathing sense.

I'm attracted to eccentric-ism, but only if it's done without pretension. Most of my friends are proudly quirky in some way.

Yes it can annoy me sometimes. When people start screaming "accept me" and keep shoving their point of view all the time. They need to know that understanding and acceptance is a two way street.

No. I think being "mean" to anyone says more about you than it does about them.

no ...I was made fun of when I was little.....the thing I learned from being ostracized is that I really enjoy my own company and I think I'm amazing....later on I found other people who thought the same ...so I don't give a flying fuck what anyone thinks of me
contrary to popular opinion I am afraid there is a plethora of mundane banal boring normal people ...I try to avoid them at all cost

ever actually listen to the words of this song ???

I've always viewed the word "weird" as "different sort of behavior cast in a negative light". It can be used in almost humorous means but it can also be pretty nasty.

I am enjoying reading all these comments guys, it gives me hope in mankind icon_smile.gif

I really and truly despise those who use it to hurt someones feelings, the shallowness of them is appalling.

condemning someone for weird behaviour, unless it's something that would make others uncomfortable, it just nasty.

I look back on highschool with angry eyes to all the waste of potential, I know now that the reason weird is obscure and unclear in meaning is because it's how the stupid stop the smart, they just use it on those whom they are intimidated by, and appeal to a smarter person's humility and insecurity and doubt in their own self awareness.

Weird people believe they're weird, because the mean have told them that for so long, you just got to remember that its just their opinion and nothing else.

Aristoshark saidUsually when we call someone "weird" we're really saying that they are making us uncomfortable in some way, or that we feel awkward. The meanness is a defense to that (and not a very nice one).

When I was in school, I kept myself to myself and never bothered a soul, people would make me uncomfortable by calling me weird with a creepy cruel smile on their faces, shudder.

Just like "naked," there's "good weird" and "bad weird."
We had a guy in the office last year who was very weird and very annoying. If I confronted him about it as his boss, he would start talking to me in a made up language. It was spectacularly annoying and after trying to explain to him nicely how he was being counter productive in the office many times, I eventually fired him.

I can tell that people are very thrown by me, and I suspect it's because my personality and my physicality don't jive. I think that they expect me to be the "All-American Boy" or the villainous sweep-the-leg blond jerk-off from The Karate Kid. It's followed (and frustrated) me for a long while now.

In their defense, Tyler Durden by-way-of Lestat mixed with Veronica Mars is a lot to handle.
