Nightwish is from Finland. But yea, they're awesome! They were my "gateway" band that first got me into metal back in high school. icon_cool.gif

I saw them live last year in San Francisco when Kamelot opened for them icon_biggrin.gif

A few of my other favs...

Kamelot (symphonic metal, clean male lead vocals)

In This Moment (heavy metal, clean and screaming female lead vocals)

Amaranthe (metalcore/power metal, clean female and male vocals, male growls/screams)

Van Canto is, to my knowledge, the only A CAPELLA (+drums) metal band out there. They do mostly epic-themed metal (a la Dragon Force, etc). Seriously, how badass is a guy that can do a convincing guitar solo with HIS VOICE. (at 2:47)icon_eek.gif

Great list. I like most of them. If you like those bands, I'm surprised you left off others with a similar sound. For example:

    Drowning Pool (Bodies)
Guns N' Roses (Paradise City & November Rain)
    Derek and The Dominos (Layla)
    Live (Lightning Crashes)
Alice in Chains (Man in The Box)
    Refused (New Noise)
Def Leppard (Pour Some Sugar On Me)
    Sevendust (Praise)
    Dream Theater (Pull Me Under)
    Rage Against The Machine (Testify)
    Kid Rock (Bawitdaba)
    The Black Crowes (Jealous Again)
    Rammstein (Buck Dich)
    Billy Squier (Everybody Wants You)

They do not feature screaming guitars and booming drmlines but there are some good rock bands that concentrate more on the message and lyric more than the beat, drumline, and guitar riffs:

    Arcade Fire,
    Radiohead,
    Tool,
    Train,
    Rush,
    etc...?

I used to listen to Nightwish a lot during the Tarja days. Not as big of a fan of the last two albums since she left.
