How about we list all the awesome things this country has done so we have a list which can counter line for line the negatives others dwell on

I made a thread similar to this yesterday but deleted it because I felt I had made too many America related threads, here was my list, in concise order:

A Loyal patriotism that unites the country in times of dispair most honorably.

No need for this thread. America does/did a lot of things right. Otherwise, no one would be talking trash about it. Haters gonna hate. icon_lol.gif

I agree with patriotism that unites the country. A lot of other countries see this as nauseating but fuck 'em. If you put a group of 5 extremely diverse Americans in the same room, I'm sure they could all discuss their pride in the USA.

I do not agree with many things our government does, but I sure as hell love our military and the sacrifices that have been made in the past to build the nation we live in today.

I have said it before and I will say it again: every country has a murky past. And the only governments that have full disclosure with its people are not in a position of power in today's world, if that tells you anything.

The US Constitution. In particular the Twenty-second Amendment of the United States Constitution that sets a term limit for election to the office of President of the United States.

We're the only superpower the world has ever seen whose people never sought, or seek, to have such immense power. We're the only superpower the world has ever seen whose enemies know that they would be treated with some sense of respect and dignity when defeated. No one is truly scared of Americans the way that people have been afraid of the Romans, Ottomans, or British in the past. We're the first and only reluctant superpower.

Here`s some big ones you got right:

A written constitution, with guaranteed freedoms.

Formal separation of church and state.

    Separation of branches of government.

Elected president/head of state, with limited tenure.

    Devolving power to individual states.

Accepting and celebrating diversity within the country.

Also attracting some of the brightest, most talented people on Earth.

Well at least we don't make slaves out of conquered populations. That's a plus, right?

smh.. So much 'uh uh' in your post.

But going to the OP. I think where America went right is with the constitution and its amendments. The trouble is the enforcement of the rights. But they look good on paper.

Practical sense in trade and business, economically savy.

The automobile - invented in Germany
The moving picture - in France
Democracy - known throughout the ancient world.

Lists like these that untruthfully claim someone else's credit do more damage than good to the reputation on this great nation.

You are misinterpreting his post. He is not claiming that America invented these things, just that America did them right.

    Automobile - Dodge, Chevrolet, Ford
Moving picture - Many great American production companies, like Dreamworks, Warner Bros, Sony Pictures Entertainment, etc.
Democracy - Our government isn't a true democracy, rather a customized version that fit our needs upon our independence. I don't think it is a perfect system, but I don't think such a thing exists.

This isn't the America's greatest inventions thread, it's what America has done right with the world.

America didn't invent the strong work ethic either, other cultures exhibited that as well, but the work ethic is one of the hallmarks of what it is to be American, your countries most positive attribute, arguably.

Isn't that what the other poster is doing by bashing the Roman's, ottomans and british?
