SAN DIEGO — Openly gay City Council President Todd Gloria will become interim mayor of San Diego, following the resignation of embattled mayor Bob Filner, who announced Friday that he will step down next week as part of a settlement of a lawsuit alleging sexual harassment by no fewer than 18 women.

Annise Parker has done Houston wonders! I'm actually volunteering to assist in her re-election campaign this fall.

This is actually the second time this has happened in SD. When another mayor resigned in the mid-2000's, lesbian Toni Atkins assumed the interim-mayor role.

Todd Gloria is a solid city council member and is considering a run for the mayor's office. I think he'd do a good job, but it's going to be a crowded race in the primary, so at this point I'm not sure of his chances of making it to the run-off election.

Seattle has an openly gay candidate for mayor, Ed Murray, who has made it past the primaries and will head for the final election. He had the most votes of all the candidates, so he has a good chance of winning. He had previously served in the state legislature as a senator.
