Is anyone else watching it? I know the Australians already have, but how about those of us Stateside or elsewhere.

    It's so bizarre. And funny.

    Thoughts?

I'm Australian, but didn't watch it the first time through. They're repeating it now and I laugh until I can't breathe. If it were any less apropriate, I can't imagine how. Two big thumbs up.

my thoughts on the matter? chris lilley is a genius. icon_biggrin.gif

all the characters are spot on; regardless of where you are in australia, you can find analogues of mr g, jonah and ja'mie in any public school (or private school for that matter).

totally worth watching if you're a fan of awkward satire.

It is pure genius... notice not too many yanks are commenting on this topic so far... maybe too obscure for a US audience?

At least Chris Lilley was smart enough not to sell off the concept like Kath and Kim.

Can't wait for his next project.

Yeah - i'm glad they didn't do it with a weird American actor. That ruins everything. The only cast who did it was The Office. Oh, and Ugly Betty which is based on a televison show too.

Mr. G becoming the head of Performing arts is hilarious. and the Ja'mie skits are bizarre and I don't know if because he is dressed up and one of those girls and (s)he's so ugly, or so self-unaware that she interacts as an actual student.

A good thesis about gender issues could be extrapolated from this show. great themes in an uncomfortable environment that is actually not real. Everything about it seems to be working on extra levels to make us feel that it is the whole situation is plausible.

It's definite genius. I want to see more by this guy.

you should check out "we can be heroes," which is another mockumentary he created prior to summer heights high; it delves into the lives of a group of mostly undeserving (and thankfully imaginary) nominees for australian of the year. quite amusing, but a little more awkward than shh - makes the average aussie look like a complete idiot...
