The truth was widely reported upon.

The Senator in question was invited but declined saying he would be out of town.

Several GOP speakers were invited but all declined.

Here is a clip from FOX's own Bill O'Reilly admitting he was wrong on this.

    http://www.mediaite.com/online/senator-tim-scott-turned-down-invitation-to-50th-anniversary-of-mlk-speech/

"based on an email exchange obtained by CQ Roll Call, the South Carolina Republican did receive an invitation to attend the festivities commemorating Martin Luther King Jr.’s delivery of the famous “I Have a Dream” speech.

The invitation, sent Aug. 8 from the Coalition for the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington, appears to have been a form letter to all members of Congress, with invitees listed as “Representative” rather than by name.

Within a day, Rachel Shelbourne, a staff assistant to Scott, had replied to the email with the following message:

“Thank you for extending to Senator Tim Scott the invitation to the 50th Anniversary of the March on Washington on August 28th. Unfortunately, the Senator will be in South Carolina during this time, so he will be unable to attend the event. Please do, however, keep him in mind for future events you may be hosting.”

Haha. Why bring facts to political arguments? They get in the way of the agenda each side wants to push. Way to clarify though. Lol.

What is the disgrace, is there is only ONE black senator to invite . Hardly representative of the states they represent.icon_confused.gif

The comment led me to read up on how many black Senators there have been (only icon_cool.gif 8 and only 2 ever serving in the same Congress. Barack Obama remains the most recent African American to be elected to the Senate.

(Many of the others were appointed to the Senate by their state legislatures or the Governor of the time as replacements, according to wikipedia)

The fact that he declined makes this a moot point, but Oprah is still a more prominent figure than Tim Scott and a lot more influential.

Indeed. She is certainly among the wealthiest and most influential women of colour in America. She embodies the success Dr King dreamed could be available to everyone, regardless of the colour of their skin.

Adding to what others have said, Tim Scott being the ONLY black senator is a big deal to you because he is a Republican.

From what I understand of the hijacking of MLK's dream by some conservatives, we are supposed to be colorblind, and the fact that Tim Scott is the ONLY black senator is supposed to be a non-issue. After all, isn't it the case that only liberals make a big deal about race and play the race card.

You hit the nail on the head, conservatives pull the race card whenever it's convenient, particularly for yet another one of their arguments of victimization.

Let me help you out so you don't appear like a drone jackass. When you make sweeping, generalized statements about an entire group - for example, "black people are lazy" or "conservatives pull the race card whenever it's convenient" you show yourself to be a bigot (as illustrated in my first example) or a hyper-partisan political hack (as illustrated in my second example).

    Please do think about this.

Victimization, once again. There is a heck of a lot of group-think among conservatives and when it is convenient, they do pull the race card, that's how politics works. That is not even remotely close to saying "black people are lazy", but you just needed an excuse to post something like that, I think.

Don't buy into SouthBeach's bullshit. Yes, that's who he is, and as SouthBeach has made sweeping statements (about liberals) that outdoes yours and then some. icon_lol.gif

I'm a bit confused. "HereAndThere" is using southbeach1500's image. But isn't southbeach banned? Has he confirmed that he's the former southbeach, or denied it, or just won't say?

And if he's not southbeach1500, then he's using a fake pic for himself. Itself a TOS/TOU violation, correct? So I'm confuzzled about this.

What exactly are we dealing with? The banned southbeach1500, or a phony, or what?

Sub dude, you wrote that he WAS NOT INVITED.

FACT IS, our nation's ONLY black Senator WAS INVITED

and like every other invited Republican, he chose not to attend.

Would you like to retract your initial misinformation?
