Has anyone participated in one of these? If so, how was the experience?

yes, I did attend a Body Electric workshop a couple of years ago.

I found that it was very professionally run and an enjoyable experience. I did travel to another city away from where I live so it was like a mini-retreat away for all the normal distractions that creep into one's life.

The group of guys that attended were all very nice and respectful - of course there was a lot of sensual touching that was designed to teach you more about your body and sensual pleasure.

    I would recommend it.

If you would like several naked men touching you at the same time
And learning to edge without actually cumming you will enjoy
    Body Electric.

Did their introductory program (Celebrating the Body Erotic) in San Diego a few years ago. From your profile (Burning Man, etc) you would find it quite comfortable but perhaps a bit basic. Generally a nice group of guys (I've gotten that from others who attended different sessions than mine too) who will range from 30-70, be at varying stages of comfort with their body and emotions. A few straight or bi guys exploring, some relatively closeted but trying to open the door, and some who have been out for years but may be adjusting to changes in life such as loss of partner and being thrust back in to dating scene (where I was at the time).
If you can do a retreat style program I would highly recommend it. In San Diego and probably some other cities, it is a two day activity but everyone disperses to their home or hotel in evening so you lose some sense of interaction and intimacy overnight. There is some basic introduction to Taoist/Tantric philosophy but more a program geared to comfort with your own body, nakedness, touch and some technique for sensual pleasure.
I would do it again but definitely requires some basic comfort with yourself first.
