New Philippines HIV cases continue to skyrocket

The number of new HIV diagnoses in the Philippines hit an all time record high in July, beating the previous record set just a month earlier in a further sign that the country is losing control of the problem

Every pope since AIDS was first discovered has maintained that condom usage is a sin. Theses popes are very vocal speaking against condoms. They're even against condom usage when HIV is present. This insanity (or evil?) has led to the deaths and suffering of thousands of innocent people.

Unfortunately many gay Filipinos are catholic, and they probably reason that its TWO sins to have gay sex using a condom, but only ONE sin for unprotected gay sex.

But the reality is...the only sin committed is by the Catholic Church. Accomplices to this include the government (for allowing him to speak) and members of the Catholic church giving the pope legitimacy and allowing for his travel, through their donations. Yes, it is a sin to donate to the Catholic Church.

I remember the Catholic Church's advocacy was more towards abstinence.

What a hair-brained half-baked idea that is. "They probably reason..." As if you know.

These kinds of stories always scare the shit out of me. It's unbelievable how many cases there are each year.

Oh yes, sitting at home day in and day out, copying and pasting headlines and links to articles and rarely commenting on them. Yeah, he's a human RSS feed.

If these guys can break the popes rules about having sex outside of marriage and having sex with the same gender, they could surely break his condom rule.

Its not so much they are told they shouldnt put a condom on - its the lack of education of safe sex and condoms and lube in the first place... then there is an issue that condoms are expensive even when they are available. It doesnt explain everything though - of two Philippino men Ive met living in NZ both preferred to fuck and be fucked without condoms... perhaps its the loss of physical sensitivity of condom use that makes them take the risk???

I don't think two counts as a statistically viable sample space...

    There are.

However, they're above his mental capabilities.

That's logical to you and me.

However, to devout Catholic gay men, their desire for gay sex is innate and driven by hormones, so they'll eventually lose control, at least until they get off. Then, off to confession to repent (and absolve the guilt with a donation...lol). This is not unlike throngs of anti-gay republicans and preachers who get caught in the act during the "lost control" phase. So, its that huge hormonal desire that makes committing the "sin" inevitable.

But the condom? There is no hormonal desire for it. Desire for a condom is created by logic. But that logic must battle it out with religious teaching. And unfortunately, logic often loses out over religion. Again, this is not unlike the republican party platform regarding abortion, stem cell research, climate change, gay rights, etc.
