Anyone cut their own hair?

I've cut my own hair since I was about 14. I got fed-up with barbers in the early 1960s, who did whatever the hell they wanted with a young kid, regardless of what I told them. They'd slather my hair with cream and give me the "wet look" with a sharp part, when I'd told them I wanted it dry, and they'd shape it all wrong, too. I'd look like my father.

So I taught myself to cut my own hair, using a hand-held mirror with a wall mirror. I've only gone back to a barber a few times in the last 40 years, when I needed a very regulation look, like before taking my mandatory Army Officer promotion photographs.

And it's not all simple buzz-cuts, which I still sometimes do for hot weather activities. I can do my hair long, short and in-between. I like the idea that my personal grooming is my own business, and not dependent on someone else.

    Does anyone else do this?

I just did my own "independent woman" haircut....shaving it off. going back to bald and keeping it short for awhile.

I haven't gotten a real haircut in years. I've even had a few brave friends let me cut their hair.

Yup. Two for me, one for the barber (after two cycles little imperfections emerge and professional help is needed).

    that's funny.

I'm almost embarrassed to admit how much I pay to have my hair cut considering other guys are cutting their own.

Hell no! In college a friend said that because I was gay, I should be able to cut hair (...right...). Well by the time his roommate came in, he literally fell over laughing because I had given him around 20 different layers in the back of his head! If I did that to someone, there's no way I can do that to myself!! LOL

Used to but every time I tried to do something other than buzzing my head completely, like a high and tight well, let's just say that I had to end up buzzing my head. I'm letting my hair grow now, time for a change!

    since i was 10.

i remember telling the lady that cut my hair that it wasn't all that hard since i had successfully done it and nobody could tell the difference. i think i hurt her feelings. she's no longer in the haircutting business. she sells real estate now. probably not the best career move icon_confused.gif

    Yep.

    # 7 clip for the top. # 5, 4, 3 to fade in the sides. # 2 & 1 to blend in the bottom.

Been doing it myself since I was 15.

I also cut my partner's hair. I had a Flowbee, which worked quite well, but right now I just use a classic electric trimmer and scissors for us both. We save hundreds of dollars a year, and quite honestly, I think we look better than if we went to a barber.

I'd still consider using a barber for convenience, if only they'd LISTEN to what I want, and not always insist on doing my hair like THEY want. Barbers are their own worst enemies.

I cut my own. I got sick of hairstylist messing it up. When they are about half way through they discover what I mean by my hair having curls areas and by then chunks are kind of missing. haha! ITs not super curly like when i was a kid... but has some curls and waves throughout it.

So I use clippers to trim down the sides to an even length and then put a longer setting on to trim the top and then scissors and a small comb to to the ret on top.

My mom used to cut my hair until the middle of high school. Then I started cutting my own, either by buzzing in the summer or scissors when I wanted it a little longer. Since then I've been to a salon twice, once to shape my long hair, and again when I got it all chopped off. I wish I had done the second time myself, but I was very pleased with the first experience.

    Yup, most of the time.

But my buddy also cuts it for me in the summer time. Who doesn't love a nude buzzcut and shave?!
