I was there when the fist video played.
--Video did not kill the Radio star
However, You tube did kill the Video channel.
It's funny you post this, because I was just talking about how the Music Video awards should be renamed the You Tube Awards.

Yeah I remember, I was 14, then one day Britney Spears was on, I think that was the day everything started to change (before that they played rock mostly and not rap and pop), well what your gonna do. And the only TV show (that wasnt about music) was Daria and Ren & Stimpy icon_cool.gif

It's even funnier how they can have a WHOLE marathon of people having drunken random hookups and the next night is a marathon about the woes of teen pregnancy. icon_rolleyes.gif

    Hah! MoronTV.

Much Music in Canada still plays music videos, but they went to shit in other ways. They used to be really good at catering to all audiences when it came to music. They of course had their chart topper and request programs, but then they had themed shows where you could find a lot of music that was considered to be underground.

Sometime in the mid 2000's they saw the money in pop and got rid of their good stuff. They followed suit with MTV and started favouring reality TV and dramas over music-related programs.

yeah, at 3 in the morning until 5. obviously, everybody is sleeping so nobody knows. they play club music the first hour and then they decide to play mainstream music the next. then it's another episode of teen mom or whatever they air.

doesn't really matter. youtube basically is mtv now.

Lol don't give me that. I remember the days of TRL and even earlier than that the days of Beavis & Butthead and non-stop video rotation, Real World, and game shows. The art of making a music video has gone down in quality lately though. It sort of takes you out of it when you see such blatant product placement in most videos. MTV had to change its format or else it would've gone under a long time ago. At least they're making an attempt with scripted television.

People who think MTV doesn't play music anymore likely don't watch MTV.

Fact of the matter is, viewership was declining, people don't care to sit and watch music videos on TV, that's what Vivo & Youtube are for.

Instead, MTV launches new artists and songs by prominently featuring music in their TV shows and even crediting them as they did with music videos. This was really prominent during Laguna Beach & the Hills.

So the music is still there, and still a big part of who they are. But no one would sit in front of a TV and watch music videos for a few hours. If you think you still would, it's just the nostalgia talking.

    huh ?
    MTV always plays music.
MTV was meant to play music.

The thing is good music or bad music.
Good or bad it depends on individual interests.
    Don't like it -> stop watching.icon_smile.gif
    Done.

I don't know but sometimes I see people keep judging what other people love and I can't stand it.
It's like I'm only into dudes and homophobic people judge what I love.
    So is music.
