Wow. I finally did it. I came out to my family. I did it the cowardly way (via email) to all my siblings and their spouses. But hey I still did it. I had previously only told my twin and his wife. I told them that I was still the same person and nothing has changed. I asked that they hold off on the questions until tomorrow. My mother has already called and left a 5 minute message saying she has known for years and that she is just glad I am finally happy. I feel pretty good right now.

Great! Let's hope it goes well. But don't be discouraged if you get some negative remarks. As you said, you're still the person you always were, only the label has changed.

Breaking up by e-mail is cowardly. Coming out by e-mail is fine, and can be better in some ways. I came out to my brother over MSN, because that's just the kind of relationship we have. We don't really consider MSN to be any different than being on the phone (we live in two different cities). Congrats on taking a big step!

I think people should come out in person. But when you come out of the closet, you really come out. I mean, you sent an email to two dozen people it sounds like. Way to go!

If you will be seeing them over the holidays, expect a little awkwardness. Here is my recipe for relief:

    2oz gin
    1/2oz lemon juice
    1/2 orange juice
    1/2 tsp fine sugar
    garnish with maraschino cherry

    congrats!

That's awesome. And what's more awesome is that you have a straight twin. Have you participated in one of those studies where they look for gay/straight pairs of twins?

That's a good way to describe it "shift in the family paradigm." When I came out, my parents reacted quite negatively, and we haven't really dealt with it completely yet, so things are a bit awkward there. When I told my brother, he was initially surprised, but my honesty brought him to open up about his own personal stuff, and we became much closer (after spending our childhood basically ignoring each other).

Good deal, man! It's great to live life unencumbered by all the "excuses" you have to cook up to explain things. icon_smile.gif

I hope your Thanksgiving goes well!

yay! congrats! icon_biggrin.gif yeah what it boils down to is that you're their son and they love you unconditionally- they just want you to be happy and safe. be patient with the questions- its always surprising how little ppl know and understand us until we're patiently candid with them- but wow that's great news! icon_smile.gif
