Thanks for posting this! This shows a reasoned, well conceived response to a small minded bible thumping zealot. Sad that this kind of "pastor" is walking around calling himself a Christian. Sad that some clergymen and women go to school and earn their titles, while others send in $35.00 and receive a certificate, without any education or training. One pastor is not the same as another. What kind of pastor is this individual in the audience? I'm a Christian. What I've read and understand is that God and Jesus are wanting us to love one-another. There isn't any room for homophobic thought in real, true Christianity.

This pastor represents a majority view among US Christians, and the official view of most Christian denominations.

Thank President Obama for leading the way against these religious tyrants (although technically it was Joe Biden.) Prime Minister Kevin Rudd gave an eloquent defense of same-sex marriage. And then we have 5 friends on the SCOTUS.

Good to have such powerful people on OUR side. icon_cool.gif

Did I hear that pastor say he was from the Church of the Pick and Choose Holy Scripture? Oh and they wonder why so many of the flock are roaming aimlessly, their shepherds are so lost!

Thank you for the posting this. I'm quite impressed by Prime Minister Rudd. His response was articulate, well-thought, and clearly shows more than a superficial knowledge of all aspects of the question. Kudos to him! I wish more of U.S. politicians were so rational and articulate.

I like his reference to universal love because with developing structure in the community we need to get the full idea of an intention before placement into productive purpose can be made as a single person develops. If only we could be sympathetic in our raised schemas instead of reactional.

Love the tagline on the video: "Rudd just pulled a Jed Bartlett on..."

Can't say we think his was up to Aaron Sorkin discourse standard, but he clearly nailed it. "...In good Christian conscience". We were both raised Catholic, one of many intolerant and hypocritical religious organizations, but we both learned that there's a difference between most so-called Christians' behavior and what would be consistent with Christ's "teachings". Neither of us subscribe to what we call "the Christ myth" of a virgin mother, son of God, etc. And neither of us is either a deist nor an atheist, rather we're more agnostic in belief. But we both believe that Jesus existed, and he was probably a prophet in his time. And even if he wasn't, the attitudes and disciplines attributed to him are certainly contrary to the wildly out-of-control, almost rabid, intolerance and judgementalism of most "Christians" today.

THIS WHETHER YOU LIKE IT OR NOT IS PURE POLITICAL PANDERING.

HE IS A POLITICIAN, NOTHING MORE.

IF YOU ARE BORN A CHILD MOLESTER, THEIF, MURDERER ETC. DOES THIS JUSTIFY ACTIONS?

MOST POLITICIANS ONLY CHANGE WITH THE WIND.

I KNOW NO CHRISTIAN THAT HATES GAYS.

TRY THIS IS A MUSLIM COUNTRY? THEY DO NOT HAVE THE BALLS

Lawrence O'Donnell showed this on "Last Word" on MSNBC last night (9/4/2013). An absolutely brilliant response by Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd.

I watched it again and loved it. I imagine it won't be the last time I watch it. It has over 2 million views on YouTube so far.

I sincerely hope that you are joking, because this is so laden with logical fallacy it hurts. A molester/murderer/thief is inflicting harm on someone. LGBTQ people are consenting adults in love with one another, harming no one.

I guess you've never heard of the Phelps family. Also, plenty of Christians say some form of..."I don't hate gays, I have a gay friend" to justify their bigotry. Or "hate the sin, love the sinner," which is the biggest crock of bullshit I've ever heard. There are plenty of Christians that hate gays, just head to the American south...

EVERYTHING in politics is pandering. It's good to have people pandering TO US since there are plenty of people pandering to groups who are AGAINST US.

Its a rewriting of history to state President Obama LEAD the way on gay rights. It took him 560 days to change his view when he saw it was politically advantageous to do it.

I'm so grateful that I understand love better than the majority of world. Hopefully all people facing adversity realize that's the silver lining in the situation.

I genuinely feel bad for how brainwashed some people are, it's truly a limited state of existence.

President Obama has always been a sincere and dedicated advocate for gay rights, and has accomplished more for our glbt community than all other presidents combined. If anyone wants to debate that, I'm ready to rumble!
