is that what you say to someone that's actually kicking some intelligence or are you just that simple minded?

i just think it's really retarded to see how folks are simply paying MORE attention to this dude's face and body than his music. do you like his music because of his looks or do you like his music because you think he can actually sing? dude can't sing. i don't see why so many gay men view their fellow gay male counterparts as objects for their sexual desires first and everything else second. like what the fuck?

if dude was overweight and didn't look cute to you, you wouldn't even pay attention to his ass whether he could sing or not. you would have dismissed him. you and these other simple minded folks. i think that in itself says more than enough. it's really annoying though because you guys pretty much apply it to everything in your lives from your friends to your music choices.

but fuckers will dismiss this shit as hating and being bitter instead of actually looking @ themselves for a second and realizing that they're disrespecting themselves.

I really liked his first song - American Boy - but I am a bit disappointed with his new release, "Stay". Hopefully, he'll go back to writing/singing country songs in the future.

So much anger. I don't understand why people can't just be happy for someone's success. The ability to sing well is a gift as is being physically beautiful. Is his success due in part to his looks; of course. But I think him being in a genre (country) that's typically dominated by straights is what is getting him noticed.

Seriously, stop being bitter, it's really unbecoming of your character.

A lot of artists have made huge careers without having a world-stopping voice. Madonna even said that about herself many years ago. I don't know this singer you are debating,[I still listen to Donna Summer!] Anyway, I can't believe the vitriol coming from gta5iscoming.
    His music sucks.
    I think it's really retarded....

Are you kidding, bud? Who died and made you the bitch queen critic of music on RJ?
What makes you think it is ok to use horrible words like 'retarded'? Shame on you!

Try something like, I think he's a mediocre pretty face and he will flame out soon, kinda like the guy that beat Adam Lambert on AI.

    Whatever!
And get a hold of what's really important in life.

First of all, calling people bitter because they do not like someone's music is just as stupid. Secondly, he does not have the gift to sing well. Thirdly, he is not country at all.

You make a really good point, but this is RealJock. If the unfulfilled, angry, bitter gay dudes here stopepd being angry and started being happy for other people, their heads would explode from the effort.

I've said it in the other Steve Grand threads. He's not very good. But that doesn't mean he won't improve. Lots of new musicians start out mediocre, and then get better once they match up with a better producer and song writer.

But he really needs to stop depending on the "gay country music artist' thing so much. It can only carry him so far.

His new song, "Stay", definitely isn't country; pretty generic, top-50-wannabe type of song, really. But his first song, All American Boy, is considered as a country song by many. I don't really listen to a lot of country, so I don't have the most reliable opinion, but it sounded like country to me too anyway.

Check below, if you haven't checked out the song already.

I had heard the song. I think it's his voice that makes me say it isn't country. It just doesn't fit the country genre. Not to mention almost none of his singing in the song is 'clean', as in, it all sounds like it's been digitally modified. Not that that is unheard of in modern music but it's more characteristic of the pop genre than the country genre.

If I hear a song like this->, I have no doubt that it can be called country.

But songs like "All American Boy" sound more like pop to me.

Good to know. Now if only listeners would stop erroneously categorizing him as a country artist. It is almost an insult.

i'm NOT jealous. i'm telling you to smarten up. mr. steve grand wants to embark on a music career. let's focus on his music and judge him off of that. NOT about how "smoking hot" he is, that he's a gay guy, and all this other shit that's irrelevant.

be honest here, do you THINK steve grand can sing or not?

    Hyperbole much?
You do in fact come off as hating.
Is Steve Grand a great singer/piano player? No
Is he Elton John/Billy Joel/Stevie Wonder talent level? No

Can he sing? Absolutely he can hold a tune.

His talent level is easily comparable to many others that are successful in the music industry, and much like the others, his image is definite contributing factor.

Perhaps instead of insisting other smarten up, you could get a little more realistic about what you are talking about, otherwise you come off a bit "jelly".

i am a music snob and to be honest with you, i blame the music industry for making me that way. once upon a time, i actually BROUGHT music cd's because i didn't have the privilege of having napster or whatever filing sharing engine where i can hear the music before i brought it. i relied on radio and word of mouth. sometimes, i struck gold but a lot of times, i came up short where i ended up with straight trash. icon_sad.gif after buying one two many piece of shit albums and supporting these artists that weren't delivering like they should, i decided to smarten up and download instead.

there's many music artists that i don't like that happen to be popular that i personally think wouldn't be where they're at if it weren't for a hype machine promoting their overrated or untalented asses. britney spears, justin timbaland, rihanna, alicia keys, big sean just to name a few. for the past 15 years, a lot of the music has been straight up watered down, manufactured TRASH and the music industry seems to be okay with it as long as they're getting money.

so i'm just doing what i usually do. i'm NOT hating. wack shit is wack shit. i don't see why i should front and act like this music is hot when it's straight up trash. he's asking for money too or donations. icon_lol.gif tell him to put out some quality music instead of doing porno like videos.

maybe people would go and support the music artists where the music sales wouldn't be at a record low IF people put out decent music. this is a prime example. we have mr. steve grand trying to pull a fast one on the public like other music artists thinking he can get by off of putting a music video with a wack song and then doing the whole "please buy my song for 99 cents so i can pay for my music video". yeah, i'm supposed to support a guy's dream of being a singer when he can't sing and he's pretty much pulling all the stops except his voice so he can make it. PLEASE. i've done that enough times and many people have which is why the music industry is full of weak shit. there's a reason why people are downloading music. we're tired of buying wack shit.

tell mr. steve grand to put out some REAL DOPE SHIT and to stop using everything from his sexual orientation to his body in order to garner attention instead of his weak ass music. i hate how the media is giving him attention to. way too many talented artists are being slept on and too many weak artists are getting undeserved credit.

    Some clarifications:

    1) Basically no artist in the history of the music industry has success without a hype machine. That's what record labels are.

    2) His music isn't trash. i could link you plenty of youtube videos of music that is completely inept and trash. His music is Par. Competent without a trace of brilliance.

    3) You shouldn't begrudge independent musicians asking for donations. In this day and age where their music has become free, indy musician need revenue wherever they can find it. And since they do provide a service (free music/videos) it's not charity either, nor is it a scam.

    1. this is NOT true. plenty of artists have gotten their big break because the people have supported them or built up their hype. the record labels would sign people based off of that. back in the days such as the 60s before automatic playlists came about, people would request songs on the radio and this is how artists became popular. up until the late 90s, radio stations and even tv music video outlets like the box for example actually relied on the people to basically chose the songs that they wanted to hear. however, that all went away when the record companies decided to do the whole payola crap where they basically told the radio stations what to play and NOT what to play establishing playlist. over time, it increased until all radio stations became owned by the record companies. however, youtube and the internet has actually helped change that where people have some control to boost up the artists that they like where record companies ended up signing folks based off of hype.

    2. his music is trash. he CANNOT sing. let alone hold a note which explains his usage for auto tune because he can't hit the notes. he pretty much came up with the same song twice as well. also his subject matter is kind of dense. at first, it was about how he wants to turn his straight friend out. now it's about cheating on his boyfriend with someone else. as someone who uses his sexual orientation as an influence in his music, i think his music and his videos actually kind of hurt the gay community in a sense. like there's people watching and listening to that shit that thinks that's what being gay is all about when it's not.

    3. i'm begrudging him because i personally don't think he's serious about this shit. it's not making sense. the music videos, okay. he actually has develop a fanbase. is he trying to embark on a music career or is he just trying to get attention for 15 minutes? where is his other songs at besides these two with the videos? he does realize that he can put out other songs without having to release a video for them. most music artists do that to please their fans or to keep their names out there. i'm sure there's people that will support him despite the fact that he doesn't have any talent. i personally think he's trying to pull a fast one on folks

    Ok to your first point.

You are wrong . It is true. Even if an artist gets a labels attention from local buzz, they aren't exposed to larger audiences without the hype machine of the record label. It's just how it works. And those folk singers in the 60's? Same shit, payola still existed back then, and it still cost millions of dollars to record and break artists.

    To your second point.

You are wrong. If you don't like the sound of his voice that's fine. But he can clearly hold a tune. He can sing a melody as it is written. It's not debatable. Go look up the live videos.

I don't even think you have a third point to address but I'll just say recording, producing and filming two music videos in a few months is a lot of work for someone "doing it on their own". he is definitely trying.

I mean, I don't even like the guy, but your comments are so outlandish I can't keep myself from replying...

Jeeze!!!The judgement and anger toward this entertainer is so middle school. It's just entertainment! Opinions are great and disliking him is just as great, but is what he's presenting REALLY so bad to get so angry??? He's just presenting his personal style to add to our big world of VARIETY. Personally I love what he presents.
If you want to hear something really bad, you should hear me sing Dolly Parton in the car!
