Has anyone had a near-death experience they'd like to share?

I've been reading a few personal experiences as of late, just curious if anyone in our community has had a personal experience, or know someone who has? What was it like? (Feel free to share in the thread or privately.)

As a teenager I was shot through my chest by a doped up house burglar. It happened at home. A friend of mine was over and we were just swapping albums & tapes, and we didn't even know the burglar was in the house. The bullet traveled through my arm and into the right side of my chest, exiting the front right side, barely missing my heart, according to the hospital docs. The burglar fled, and my friend wasn't hit. I was conscious and bleeding profusely. My friend tried to apply a sofa pillow to my chest while we waited for the ambulance. (He had called 911). I can't tell you how badly it hurt and how scared I was. I truly thought I was dying, and was quickly giving my friend instructions about saying goodbye to my family (they weren't home). My friend kept saying "Don't talk like that!" When the ambulance came & the paramedics were working on me - getting me ready to transport to the hospital, I was actually surprised I was still alive and observed how they were working so feverishly on me. I was even more surprised (and elated) when we made it to the hospital and I began to realize I might live through this. They later said if the bullet had traveled a bit differently, it would have passed through my heart - exploding it. Am I lucky!

Flipped a go-cart. It put me in a hospital for a long time. According to the doctors I was dead when I arrived to the ER.

I was swimming in my best friend's pool at his house one afternoon. While swimming in the deep end, my leg cramped up dead center. I was trying to swim towards the sides to grad hold and almost drowned.

During highschool this kid was friends with at the time was speeding down this dirt road out in the sticks at night. He had lost track of the girl we were following and he wasn't sure of the way home. we came up over a hill and she was right there at a stop sign, and there would have been no way to stop in time, so it was either hit the back end of her car and possibly hurt or kill all of us (we were over 100 mph) or veer off road. So he veered, we went spinning through dust and dirt, I watched a telephone pole literally inches from the car zip by, as he was continuing to slow we were sliding continuously and finished off at the tree line. They were baby saplings, and beyond them was a drop off.

Leukemia. Depending on which doctor you ask, I had six of them. In three years.

Though honestly my experience was chocking on a piece of corn dog when nobody was home. It taught me to chew up my food more before swallowing. Story of a hungry teenager after cross country practice. It happened more than once though >.

Nobody has any 'going into the light' stories? I love reading about those ones where the people actually claim to have gone to heaven. Pretty interesting.

Hi Terra. When I was a little kid, I lost a number of family members in a horrific traffic accident caused by a drink driver. One of the kids in the car ultimately survived, but he died three times on the way to the hospital.

When he was very little, my family member (we'll call him Tony), used to recount how several times he went down a tunnel of light. At the end of the tunnel was a blinding but warm light. He said, too, that he felt this incredible wave of love, compassion and acceptance.

In each case, he said a voice spoke to him and said, "Your time is not yet. You must go back."

I don't think he remembers the events now that he is older, and his experience does not appear to have had a lasting effect on him.

What's interesting about his experience, though, is that it happened long before Moody's book about near-death experiences and the whole tunnel of light phenomena, so it could not have been influenced by the book.

Although to this day I am somewhat shaken by how tragic and brutal the accident was, I do believe that Tony experienced God and God's love. Clearly, not the stereotypical view of God as an old guy on a cloud, floating around up there, surrounded by angels playing harps, but something much more beautiful.

If anyone has any questions, HMU....happy to answer any questions.

I had a heart attack this past spring, and the 20-mile ambulance ride to the hospital was the most harrowing experience of my life. The pain in my upper left arm was so bad I wanted to die. I was wincing with pain so much that I couldn't open my eyes, but the ever cynical me DID manage to look for a white light, or even a few dead relatives in the ambulance. Needless to say, a stent(and probable future surgery)as well as a lifestyle change aka diet and weight loss allows me to still be here.

Recent: I almost got ran over by yet another Brooklyn driver that never heard of the right of way.

-Apparently when I was 4, I got my hands on some cologne, drank some and passed out.

Technically, a near-death experience is when you really die and then get resuscitated. Some people have an out of body experience while they are dead.

I felt it only once but that was enough. It was at the lake i was in the deep end and the tree from last year had fallen in the late my foot got tangled in the branches and seaweed. And I went under, at that time I felt scared, alone, then I felt the water going into my lungs and stomach. Then I passed out, and it felt like I woke up in a diffrent place in time but I was where I drowned, I backed out and my dad started to take the water out of my lungs, during that time, I felt at peace like nothing ever felt before, it felt like a warm summer day, and i herd. Some ones voice I never herd before, saying "not now, you still got time, return home". I woke up again on the lake floor, but I felt no fear at all. Then we smelled what was to belived a strong smell of roses. After that I know someone, somewhere is looking out for me, the smell.of roses says so.

When I was a kid on the farm we were baling hay one day, and my little brother and I were on the hay rack when my dad was driving the tractor taking the hay to a neighbor's farm where we stored some of our hay. On the road, my dad and older brothers noticed that our cows had gotten out, so we stopped. The brakes on our tractor failed, and my little brother and I were sitting on the rack full of hay when it flipped over in the ditch. We were briefly buried under a bunch of bales of hay, but were not seriously injured. The thing I remember about it is that it seemed to happen in extremely slow motion.

Wow! some really crazy stories so far. I'm happy all of made it out of those situations. And are happy, healthy, and in good mind.

I had 2 actually when i was young. I talked about it before in one of my threads. But i have seen both my cousin, and a friend shot. My cousin was selling drugs when i was around 10 and 11. We were walking home one night from a mutual friends house. And 2 guys rolled up on us and had guns. They shot my cousin, and beat me up pretty bad. Like... they really fucked me up. I didn't think i was gonna make it out alive. Luckily we did and my cousin got his ass together after that.

I was dragged by a car? friend was hit by a car at a x-walk - friend pancreas exploded - friend rolled off a cliff on a bike - friend was robbed at gun point - friend was hit by a bomb - almost drowned - friend was hit by semi-truck - people threatened to stab me.

The burglar with a gun story is gnarly
