Well first off, I didn't know where to start this topic so I figured Men's Health would be okay.

I was wondering what are the morning, afternoon or evening routines you guys have with your face? grooming? or what not. I'm new to all this and I am clueless on what to do other than washing your face with soap or something. Can you guys help me with the this lifestyle? everyone wants to look good icon_biggrin.gif

i guess thats what im looking for.. im sorry but i just really dont know the right term to ask for since I am new at this. but I guess its grooming, I read this somewhere of a guy does in his routine

"In the morning if my face is a little puffy I'll put on an ice pack while doing stomach crunches. I can do 1000 now. After I remove the ice pack I use a deep pore cleanser lotion. In the shower I use a water activated gel cleanser, then a honey almond body scrub, and on the face an exfoliating gel scrub. Then I apply an herb-mint facial mask which I leave on for 10 minutes while I prepare the rest of my routine. I always use an after shave lotion with little or no alcohol, because alcohol dries your face out and makes you look older. Then moisturizer, then an anti-aging eye balm followed by a final moisturizing protective lotion. "

So basically I just want to know what to buy, how to use it and keep myself looking nice. Face, body w/e. I know a lot of the guys have this sort of routine and it helps. I just want to learn and while staying fit and working out, be able to keep my skin nice too or something... I dont know.. I sound confused.. haha..

My gawd thats one hell of a routine.

Personally, I don't do all that.. but

I use a face wash (one by nivea, its the only one that doesn't cause problems)
then sometimes a toner and always put a moisturiser on

I wash my face twice a day and always use the moisturiser, at nights I will occasionally wear a heavier moisturiser.

Oh and I exfoliate every second day, but I have too for other reasons.

the routine thats most common and easiest to maintain is

    Wash face in the shower
    Apply a toner (optional)
    Apply Moisturiser.

erm, my body gets the standard treatment, bar of soap and a good scrub with a brush every now and then.

    general rules of thumb:

do NOT just wash your face 'with soap or something!' that is rule number one. lol....

set a routine and dont deviate too much...

use good products- don't skimp- spa quality is worth it 'cause you're investing in yourself...

free radical damage to the skin over time, like what the sun does, is cumulative so even if you think your skin looks fine now when you're young, you wanna be taking care of it for later's sake 'cause the damage is already happening....

make sure you moisturize every day (preferably with something having an SPF block in it during the day... and make sure it is formulated not to clog your pores), use a good facial cleanser morning and night, exfoliate about once a week to get the dead crap off, and as you get older, invest in eye cream to keep the bags and dark circles away. use chap stick as needed lol. if you wanna get fancy, mineral face masks or other more exotic products like peels can be used once a week or month or so, depending...

figure out your skin type and shop appropriately. i have oily skin so i have to be careful about acne....

    take vitamins and stay hydrated...

if you feel bad about how much the good stuff costs, just be glad you're not a woman and don't have to worry about braziers, makeup, birth control, and tampons- we save a lot by having penises! lol

    my personal routine:

morning: wake, wash my face with Neutragina anti-acne/stress foaming facial cleanser, groom stubble if needed (Aveda shave cream and balm), dab L'Occitane Immortalle eye cream on, moisturize with L'Occitane Immortalle product, brush teeth, scrape tongue, wash mouth with crest whitening rinse. hair product: Tea Tree pomade.

post-workout: shower- same as evening routine

evening: shower (Tea Tree mint shampoo, or Aveda, and matching conditioner, Neutragina anti-acne/stress foaming facial cleanser, Axe Pheonix body wash- occasionally i'll exfoliate the body with good sea salt from the dead sea), dry off, dab on more eye cream, put on more moisturizer (sometimes Olay anti-aging at night since its heavier), brush teeth, crest whitening rinse.

(if i were to get fancy, i'd have a day-formulated eye cream and moisturizer, and a night-formulated set. daytime is more protective, and night time is more restorative/regenerative. its also good to mix up products like shampoo and body wash.)

Your first investment should be sunscreen. Being in Hawaii you probably get alot of sun. Remember UVA rays are there even if it's cloudy. They don't cause a tan but cause collagen to break down and free radical production.

The climate there is great for moisture so stay away from excess moisture. However you're probably in need of a good exfoliant. Chemical or Manual. Manual is great since your just starting out. So a simple scrub with round sperical beads. Nothing like that St. Ives apricot stuff. If the exfoliant is spherical then it is less likely to tear the upper layer of skin. Chemical exfoliants are much more harsh and will definitely require you to not be in the sun.

The water there is pretty pure I think. You probably don't have to worry about a toner (just another step). I use a toner in Phoenix because are water is loaded with minerals among other things. At my Mom's in Maine I can go weeks with just using cleanser and a lightweight oil on my face. The only other reason to use a toner is to remove excess cleanser.

Get a good light weight moisturizer. Something with Squalane and Hylauronic acid. These are great ingredients that will do exactly that, moisturize without added oil. Since the weather is so rewarding to your skin you will probably get by with just one moisturizer for day and night.

That's about it. Remember if you buy quality it's much more concentrated and you don't have to use as much.

    Here's what I do.
Obagi CRx cleanser (morning and night) $36 lasts 6-7 months
Skinceuticals toner (morning and night) $32 lasts about 4months
    Skinceuticals C E ferulic 2oz. (Morning) $160 lasts almost a year
Skinceuticals B5 hydrating gel 2oz.(Morning and night) $90 lasts 7 months
Obagi Elastiderm eye cream .5oz (morning and night) $95 lasts about year

other than that once a week I might use a masque depending on my mood and how much alcohol I've had. Sometimes I swab %15 glycolic acid all over too. I'm usually red the next day though.

It's an investment but results will pay off. I use the products mentioned because there's not alot of money spent on marketing and the money is spent on ingredients. They work efficiently without a quick fix. You won't see results for six months.

I'm pretty sure this is a quote from American Psycho and not an actual routine (though I'm sure plenty of guys started following it after seeing Christian Bale in his tighty whiteys).

With myself, it is pretty much just soap and water. As far as my hair goes, I recently had it all buzzed off. I got sick of taking care of it. icon_smile.gif

Oh yeah, as far as hair and body goes.
Stick with a haircut that you can maintain. I get up and blow-dry then flat iron my hair every day. It's not that bad. My hairdresser is my sister so I've got the hook-up with product and stuff (she works for TIGI). I have to say that my favorite hair products are the S Factor shampoo and conditioner (remember not to shampoo every day) and the "hard to get" from TIGI.

Body care. . . Stick with body wash. It's just simply more gentle. Exfoliate once a week. The best easy at exfoliater is.....

    Raw cocoa powder
    Ground coffee
    Honey
    Some sea salt
    and olive oil.

The cocoa pulls toxins and acts like a dieuretic to the skin.
The caffeine in coffee promotes firmness
Honey and olive oil are extremely moisturizing.
Your skin will look and feel great.
