i was on here for a long time, left for several months, and now i'm back.

in the interim, i feel like something must have happened.

i'm not sure what- but this site is not quite what it was. its nothing obvious, aside from the ability to contribute financially, which doesn't seem to be required to participate.... but whatever the cause, its effect seems to be that a lot of people left- in old forums there are sometimes as many 'hidden/deleted' posts as there are active members! many of the personalities i remember from just months ago are missing... and there are far fewer forums, with far fewer posts per topic.... i remember when the forums were a flurry of activity and bantering and playfulness, actual conversation, hilarity and drama... now things just seem.... muted. dulled. maybe the last couple of days since i've joined have just been slow for some reason... but a lot of the panache i remember this site having seems faded.

    what happened??

Remember that regardless of any chat forum.....It's just a keyboard. I believe you really can't tell alot about someone through online chat or pictures.
People always ask the question, "Do you think this actor is hot?"
No. I don't know them. A picture can't tell me anything about the person.
This is why I don't feel the need to put a picture on here. Besides if I did I'm sure my inbox would be flooded. . . Lol.

As new people join, the topics are recycling and older members are dropping away from participating as much because it is a bit boring....

I mean, please, how many times do you want to discuss your and anybody else's underwear? ....and boyfriend problems? ....also, the election debates wore a lot of people out.

Actually, underwear threads still do well ....here, watch I will show you...

The election was difficult on everyone. It changed the tenor of the site, but I hope things will get back to the gay ol' days.

    Welcome back.

Which tenor is that? I guess, in my mind's ear, I assume most of you guys are tenors. Ah... stereotyping again.

...and to what did he change? icon_eek.gif

ha, tenor two in my case, though i can hit tenor one if i warm up enough :p
or sing bass- i have good range ;)

well caslon, that makes sense... i def hear ya on the boy problems threads lol.. it just seemed so sudden. the election- which i wasn't here for- could be the main culprit- if it got as heated as i remember certain religion threads getting, i could see how it'd exhaust ppl..

i guess we old guard will just have to come up with more original ways to amuse each other in here haha

i leave that up to those more clever than i

    Czarodziej:

Nice to see you back. We knew you were gone and I actually think there was some worry for you for a while, but hopefully that was unnecessary.

The site has grown. There are so many new members that I find them difficult to keep up with. I used to be able to read the posts and contribute, but now I have trouble just reading the posts. Many of the topics are being recycled as the new members come on board and don't know we've already beat a topic to death

haha well that'll be interesting to witness, and difficult to refrain just posting a link to the original 80bajillion post forum topics lol. which no new member in their right mind would spend hours reading through :p

we could see it as a refining process- we've taken a breather from round one of those old topics, but know what to say this time around so we'll say it better.... right? lol

new members are always fun... just sad to see the old ones go to make room...

I think it is because RealJock is advertising in all corners of the net. I think some of the guys coming in are from low places. They just wanna cruise and cam, no interest in the forum. And when they do contribute, everything is sex.

It's easy to see why people would miss you - and I'm not talking about your pictures. You express yourself well, thoughtfully, and with a sense of "dialog": I can hear you listening. That's not a small matter, especially when it comes across in a few paragraphs.

So, though i wasn't here when you left - welcome back.

I've been a regular at other forums, and I think there are all kinds of good reasons that participation ebbs and flows. For one thing, sometimes we look up and realize we are communicating more online than face-to-face with friends. Sometimes we do get that burn-out from one to many arguments or witnessing a particularly stupid cat-fight. Sometimes "real life" just takes up to much time!

Something I like here is the broad mix of colors, nationalities, ages - I learn something, and also hope that occasionally my middle-aged perspective helps move the discussion. I graduated from high school the year of Stonewall, so I really appreciate this window on "gay life" 39 years later, and knowing what guys your age are about. History is happening - but as Willa Cather said, there are only two or three human stories that are told over and over again. Not to go too deep here, but there is something I truly enjoy about hearing the voices, complaints and opinions of strangers, and the way the echo off my interior walls.
