It's sad what they do. But I believe they have the right to protest based on their views. Yes, they spew hate from their mouths, but over all Westboro Baptist Church are peaceful in that they do not attack counter protesters--unless i have heard wrong. They have done thousands of protests. and many times, counter protesters throw things at them and or attack them. For what reason? Is Fred Phelps gonna say, "I got hit with a hamburger today at the protest and it knocked some sense into me... IT"S OKAY TO BE GAY!"? I'm 99.999999% sure that will never happen.
Do you believe we have the right to burn the American flag?
Do you believe we have the right to deny the exsistance of the Holocaust?
Do you believe we have the right to walk around in white robes and support "White Supremacy?"
Do you believe we have the right to call homosexuality a sin and an abomination?
And do you believe we have the right to peacefully counter each of the above rights?
"Freedom of speech makes it easier to pick out the idoits."
Gay protesters and counter protesters must be peaceful... yet get their point across without demonizing others. Why? Because if we don't, you'll get people like Newt Gingride (sp) on the O'Reilly Factor stating that gays are fascists and intolerance of those with other views (e.g. Christian conservatives)
I can't stand WBC, ann coulter, the mormon church, the catholic church etc.... but I want my freedoms more that my distaste for those groups. Like it or not we need to appear as moderates. Yespeople will always disagree with us, but this past election, the undecided saw the Christian right as being more moderate for some reason (lies perhaps?). Anyways, our job is to win over the center and that is not done by burning Morman books, swatting cardboard crosses out of the hands of counter protesters and/or disrupting church services. That angers people... it angers me. Likely the overwhelming majority of protesters recently have been peaceful.
Wow I just went on a tangent. Let WBC be... we are not in danger of losing our rights because of them....luckily they are not politically active.
