How do you do an email follow-up for a job?

I interviewed for a job on August 27 and was offered another position that starts in October. The hiring manager was definitely interested in getting me into this role, but thought that I wouldn't be able to wait that long. I told him that I didn't mind waiting, but needed to be updated.

I did write a thank you email after the interview, but I feel that I should write a follow-up email now that we are closer to October

I just looking for advice on what to write in this follow-up, maybe someone more versed in the politics of job searching (pretty much everyone :cryicon_smile.gif. Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks.

There are so many different situations for follow up letters. Do a search for them on the net and you'll get lots of examples.
Follow up letters are a joke but you have to do them.

    1. standard greeting
    Just be like:

    Hi X,

I was interviewed for position X on August 27th, 2013 and I wanted to follow up with you regarding the status of my application/interview. We discussed a possible start date in October and I remain very much interested in this position, provided it has not been filled. If you or anyone else on the team has any further questions for me, please do not hesitate to contact me. I look forward to hearing from you.

    With love,

    Your boo

I used a little of your sample but tweaked it a bit. Very short simple email. I'll see tomorrow or so.

It's really hard to say. Some hiring managers feel like a follow-up shows initiative, others feel that follow-ups are a nuisance. Inevitably, both sides will proclaim that their preference is universally the best.

I think in this situation, there has definitely been the groundwork laid for a follow-up, and Import is spot on. Good luck!

Take the job starts in October, I have a feeling that interview you had, you prob. won't get it! When companies mention that they'll let you know by a certain time period, it's usually a tactic of saying *thanks for coming in, we have another person suited in mind! They don't want to say no directly to your face. Oh well, you'll end up somewhere! Good Luck.
