I wish I'd been reminded of this sooner. I suppose I should make it a recurring event in my digital calendar. My talking is done for today.

Well, maybe just as well. My Robert Newton pirate impersonation is the most terrible there is. Listening to it is worse than walking the plank or being keel-hauled.

Still, there are a few deserving characters here I might have inflicted it upon. But I'm home now and settled in after 7 hours being out and about. Even passed on a political fundraiser being held in 30 minutes. Will write them a check, it's all they really want, anyway. Not my sparkling company and stimulating conversation. icon_rolleyes.gif

Here's an interesting quote, from a diarist who knew Winston Churchill, when he was First Lord of the Admiralty during WWI (and as such responsible for the military disaster at Gallipoli, for which he was sacked).

"When Winston was at the Admiralty, the Board objected to some suggestion of his on the grounds that it would not be in accord with naval tradition. ‘Naval tradition? Naval tradition?’ said Winston. ‘Monstrous. Nothing but rum, buggery [British slang for sodomy], prayers and the lash.’"

"Rum & buggery" has since become engrained as one of the descriptions of life in the old British Navy. I do love history, it teaches you so much. icon_wink.gif
