Offhand I'd say that the only one that's clearly superior, functionally, is Apple's Control Center. The one on Android is pathetic. It's probably just a peeve of mine but I'm repeatedly annoyed that I can't turn off/lock the volume rocker on the side and control the volume from the screen.

One of the things that has always disappointed me with Android is that it often has the feel of a UI that's been designed by programmers rather than a UI that's been designed by people who understand UIs. Apple's UIs on the other hand have been designed by graphic designers, who aren't necessarily experts in UI design, but they know what looks cool. After they got done then Jobs would further tweak the UI; maybe that's why these look lackluster.

(And whoever did these screenshots is a dim bulb; sometimes Android is on one side, sometimes the other.)

True, Android's UI lacks polish. I still dont get why is it so fucking hard to design something elegant and with the user experience in mind. I mean look at this piece of shit UI from Samsung:

    46046-gs4.jpg

It looks as if Comic Sans and Monotype Cursiva had a child, swallowed him at birth and puked him all over a windows XP wallpaper.

The flat design is the "in" thing; they'd look dated and old-fashioned if they continued with the 3D UI. I'm not a fan of the flat design either.

10 years from now the 3D UI will no doubt make a comeback, with much fanfare I'll bet.

Fonts are fonts. You'll never wean the graphic designers away from using "clever" fonts in advertising.

Well, Charlitos' comment was a bit disingenuous. You can change the font to whatever you want in Android.

...ya...and stones are stones, people are people and chickens are chickens...whats your point?

Those fonts are ugly and amateurish. If a company lacks the ability to understand how to use fonts in a pleasant way to the user, you can expect everything else in the UI to go downhill. Reminds of the Philips Hue App for iOS, another piece of garbage in terms of UI aesthetics.

The point was directed to Samsung's ugly choices for design. Yes you can change the font on Android but I cant change the font on my Samsung TV or any part of the ugly UI it comes with. Companies that care about these details tend to excel in every other part of the process. Samsung sucks when it comes to UI design, software and even hardware. I dont think they stand for "quality" in any of the things they sell and thats coming from someone who owns way too many Samsung products(they were cheap, crappy but cheap)

Aesthetics are not universal so not everyone will like the same. From a technical aspect however iOS7 is far better designed and it makes more sense when compared to iOS6 or Android. That is the reason why most people love it, because it feels comfortable, it pops where it needs to without unnecessary skeumorphism or textures that make no sense to anyone under 20.

Apple releases a lot of plastic products actually. I dont think it is the materials they use but how they use them ;) Even iPhone's plastic chargers are way better built than the shitty adapters Android smartphones come with.

Which one? My favourite Android phone so far is the Nexus 4. It just feels solid and it is a pretty powerful device. The Nexus 5 should be coming out this fall.

That was my reaction the first time I saw that on my Galaxy S4. Life companion? Seriously? I gotta see that every time I use my phone? So, I Googled it and immediately found directions on how to edit that screen. Now, there's just my carbon fiber wallpaper with the time and date.

BTW, that's the lockscreen, not the main UI.
