This is why I'm not going to see the movie.

Yes, I'm a part time playwright and nonfiction writer (memoir/personal essay/autobiography/Ancient History/theology/comedy), but I'm not drawn to his work and I do not like his energy and what it does to readers. I can do without Salinger. (I did start a thread about the Charlie Rose Show coverage of the movie. It was interesting.)

I don't know anything about JD Salinger's personal life, and so I'm naturally dubious about getting accurate biographical info from a Hollywood movie. I'd feel more comfortable reading a reputable biography before seeing a movie interpretation.

But of course I read "Catcher" around 1963 when I was in prep school, we all did, and "Franny and Zooey" a few years later. Along with "Lord of the Flies", "1984", "Brave New World", "The Lord of the Rings", and all the trendy things for my generation by other authors.

I wonder if those books are even read today, or any books at all? icon_confused.gif

venue35 saidThe Salinger doc has gotten some of the worst reviews I've ever read.

So I'm reading, too. I'll wait until I can see it for free, and not in some dank movie art house.

Just saw Salinger. Don't know why the critics are lambasting it, thought the documentary was well done. Can't wait when 6 unreleased Salinger works will be published between 2015 thru 2020.....
