Why do so many gay guys with face pics force those severely clenched smiles?

That's a smile? Looks more like he's constipated & trying to hard.

Is it part of the best-little-boy, people-pleasing education of young homos?

I used to hate going to the CW bar here because the minute I got through the door, someone would say something like, "This here's a frenly bar...ain't gonna keel you to SMILE."

The bar's owner asked me to be in a print ad. I told her I didn't even enjoy going to her bar, much less dressing up like Roy Rogers. She said: "I don't care if you don't like it...Onliest thang is you have to SMILE FOR THE FIRST TIME IN YER LIFE."

Smirking, squinting and scowling are really under-appreciated.

"maybe there is something large up his ass? I have seen that look before."

Are you bragging or did you see it in an overhead mirror?

One of the reasons I don't have a profile photo is that I'm in the media where I live. One day I'm trolling for dates on Real Jock, the next day I'm seeing the job of a lifetime jeopardized because my boss figures I'm wanking on cam for every Tom, Dick and Obscenewish.

Anyway, when I first started seeing my photos appear in print media, I realized that I clenched my jaw every time someone tried to take a picture of me. It actually took a little while to figure out how to look relaxed and nonchalant in front of the camera.

I don't think it's odd for people who don't spend a lot of time staring at their own photos to take dorky photos. That grade two, clenched-teeth smile just makes a guy look unaware of his flattering angles. He's probably spent less time in front of the mirror than me. Sometimes, that's a good thing.

By the way -- before my reply derails the topic of this thread -- I've shown my photo to tons of people who have asked to see it.

Forced grins? Maybe they can't help it. Here's a picture of my blind date the other night. :-)

By the way, I haven't seen many gay guys with forced smiles. On this RJ website, I'd say none at all, at least that I have come across.

OW, I'm right there with you. This has always summed up my sentiment about other people wanting me to "smile":

It's a nice penis, but it didn't make me clench my jaw.

I was just about to ask a question about facial expressions in pics!

I was wondering if my own facepic wasn't too scowly or pouty.

I hate it when I'm in a bar or sauna or whatever and the tarts floating around can't even manage a slight smile (Note to tarts: I'm not going to jump on you)... I don't want my profile to come across that way!

4, I would describe your face pic as pensive, not scowly or pouty.

To my eyes, it reflects sexual satiation.

Actually, the smiling pic of you in the "12" shirt is really cute, 4.

I am being facetious, of course, partly in response to the clear face pic thread. However, I do frequently come across this phenomenon -- not just here, but on several similar social networking sites for gay men. Kind of makes me wonder if they're trying too hard to mask the inner drahma queen.
