This is appallingly unbelievable and just horridly shocking that an act of kidnapping, murder, and cheer unwarranted violence on other fellow citizens/human beings has taken please in a busy community mall on a Saturday ( family day for the Nairobi mall ) and a UN declared International (World) Day of Peace.
I just want to say that,I don't like how media is targeting Somalia and the Somali people. these outlaws don't speak for the majority of the Somalis ... some of my best friends back in university days where Somalis, and no they were not suicide-bombers or mall hijackers.
If anything, al-shabab represents a bunch of outlaws, and the Kenyan president has promised the worst and severest type of punishment to awaits them once arrest and brought to justice.

Your right, it has nothing to do with Somalis perse. But Al-shabaab which is Al-Qaeda group that is in a battle with the government forces in Somalia.

If it were not for this gruesome attack, the church bombing in Pakistan would be above the fold.

I guess its going to take another decade for the West to get its education on Islam.

I believe The root cause behind this on-going plight in Somalia is more to do with a dangerous mix of bigoted self-interested warlords turn politicians,an extreme twisting of religion to justify their brutal actions plus bigoted tribal lust for control of power and resources.

Well put. A few morally bankrupt terrorists do not represent the Somali people. While the attack was taking place in West gate mall, Somalis were busy collecting funds, sending intelligence officers to Kenya and donating blood for the injured. We all have a common enemy who use religion as a cloak to corrupt youth with backwards ideology, robbing them of their future. I understand why the media is targeting Somalis, since Al-Shabaab is a Somali militant group, and Somalia is a hub for piracy, however the international media has not played a positive role in reporting the plight of Somalia, they have chosen to vilify the nation and its people which is counter-productive.
