Here is the new trailer for STAR TREK: PHASE II's latest episode, a two-parter written and directed by David Gerrold (THE TROUBLE WITH TRIBBLES) entitled BLOOD AND FIRE.

It's an episode that deals directly with Gay marriage and indirectly with AIDS.

I am proud and honored to have been given the opportunity to create certain visual effects for this show, namely the new Transporter effects. Up until now, STAR TREK: Phase II (a.k.a. STAR TREK: NEW VOYAGES) had been using some transporter effects that were sub-par, to be quite honest. They looked like simple painted moire partterned speckles being animated up the actors' bodies.

I am pleased to have brought the look of their transporters back in line with the look and feel of the classic effects from the Original Series, but with a bit more depth. In this trailer, which was quite compellingly edited by Brian Kelley, you will briefly see one of my transporter shots. The entire episode will hit the Web December 20. Visit www.startreknewvoyages.com to learn more about this award-winning show. It takes up where the Original Series was cancelled, as if we continued into years 4 and 5 of Kirk's Five Year Mission. For a fan-based production, it is absolutely top-notch!

The kid on the bottom is Bobby Rice, who plays Captain Kirk's nephew Peter, and is Gay in the episode. He also acted in a show I also appeared in, this year's season of THE LAIR on Here!TV. I played Mr. Spivey, and Bobby and I worked one or two days at the same time, though no scenes together.

I can't wait for the next Star Trek Movie!!!!

I grew up on all the Star Trek's. I watched every series (the current one, too). All the movies, and the marathons on TV.

Yeah, those golden heeby-jeebies are the Regulan Blood worms in a different form. Once they contact a human body, they enter (presumably through the skin) and the results are quite horrific. Hence the AIDS allegory.

What's interesting about this script is that it was written about 20 years ago to be an TNG episode, but it got scrapped.

Correct. Roddenberry was initially in favor of it, but then apparently his lawyer (according to some) advised him against it. There is still a strong culture of homophobia in some parts of Hollywood. You might be able to learn more on David Gerrold's website.
