--This would be hilarious if it wasn’t so sad and such an affront to science.

Amalaha’s use of magnets to “prove” that homosexuality is impossible has earned him acclaim, but mostly just inside his home country Nigeria, where punishments for being gay include 14 years imprisonment and death by stoning.

He believes his work is “groundbreaking” and other professors at his university have noted that he is well on his way to earning a Nobel prize.

Outside of the University of Lagos, however, many scientists are critical. Writer Luiz DeBarros notes, “It’s debatable as to whether the embarrassing article is more damning of the standard of education at the University of Lagos or of the standard of journalism at This Day."

While many scientists debate the evolutionary advantage of homosexuality, it is important to note that it has been observed in around 1500 different species, and has been thoroughly documented for 500 of them.

I couldn't find his hypothesis. Is he saying it's because like poles repel, but opposite poles attract?

Of course, what happens when you extend that analogy to species? I guess 2 elephants couldn't mate, because they're likes, they'd have to find a rhinoceros as an opposite?

Well, I shouldn't speculate, I couldn't find the article, just reader comments. Can anyone here link and/or paste what he's claiming?

What if the magnets he used were same-sex magnets?

Instead of worrying about same-sex marriage, how about figure a solution for fixing problems like poverty and corruption. I don't get these countries, they are so worried about two men sleeping together and yet their people continue to starve to death. icon_rolleyes.gif

I liken it to saying I can stop time just because I took the battery out of the clock. In other words the guy is an idiot.

Phew! Thank goodness this guy is Nigeria discovered that gay marriage was impossible. Seeing all these happy, monogamous, gay married couples have really made me question it lately... icon_rolleyes.gificon_razz.gif

They have a terrible educational system. Its all about religion, rituals and superstitions, thats their way to cope with their current situation. In a way I cant blame them.

If this guy from Nigeria wants to play Science then lets play science. Guanidinium cations attract each other in aqueous solution. In this case Like attracts Like.

    Indeed.

Also, cooper pairs. Electrons can pair up (even though they normally are repulsive) and in this case superconductivity allows two electrons to pair up, with opposite speeds and spins tail to end (69!)

Magnets do not prove anything about marriage.
