I felt that the "Science and Technology" forum would be the proper one for tracking all of the technical issues plaguing perhaps the single most important website in the USA at the moment, healthcare.gov.

As I come across interesting issues from the healthcare.gov Facebook page, I'll post them here. I encourage others to share their problems with the website here too.

    First up:

Eric West: Your website is poorly programmed. I click on LETS GET STARTED and then choose the state of Pennsylvania. Then, it brings me to a page saying I must have mistyped the web address and that your website is being reconfigured. What is so dang difficult about this? I can't even check on rates.

Marti Lawson: So I got on live chat. She says hello and I explain very slowly that I enter my password and username and it either says invalid or file not found.

Her reply was" Did you enter your password?" I just said it tells me it is invalid. So mighty brain says" try using your valid password." I said I entered the one your site said was mine and valid but now it says invalid.

Then this government nitwit says" ma'am it wont work if you are not using a valid password." Am I speaking Chinese here? I said, thru clenched teeth, Miss, I have an email from you stating my user name and password are verified. I even sent for my password again and its the one I am using. yet t wont take it and wont let me into the site.

She says" well if you have a password, try using it, I don't see the problem." OMG. Please dear God don't let anyone in her family have their finger on the button to launch a nuke!

Debi L Curry: So far, I can't say I'm thrilled with the new Healthcare.gov marketplace. First, I waited online for the opportunity to create an account. Once I was able to do so - and verified the account - I tried unsuccessfully to log in several times. When that didn't work, I tried the auto-recover of either user name (which I knew I had correct) or resetting password. Neither sent me the email the system said it should have sent.

That failing... well, like tons of other good citizens, I am sure... I created a duplicate account with a slightly different user name. Same results. Cannot log in.

Followed Healthcare.gov suggestions by deleting cookies, resetting browser, etc. Still no luck.

Call me crazy. I created yet a third account, still thinking I had done something wrong. All info the same except a slightly different user name. (Which, of course, I am quite SURE I know is spelled correctly, etc.)

After creating and properly verifying a third account, I still cannot log in. Trying to reset a password results in an error message saying that there is no such user... yet when I request a password reset, the system certainly knows me and sends me an email.

OK... those of you who know me know I am a patient sort... but today, I feel downright IMPATIENT...

Not a good start for a program that is supposed to improve health care - and magically lower costs - for us "patients"!

Still having major system problems today:

Michael Corey Daconta: Just tried to get on ... seems like it is down again for "schedule maintenance"??? No one schedules maintenance on a Tuesday morning.

Please change your message to the truth. Something like: Ooops ... we crashed again! Sorry.

Here's a patient person - I doubt that I would have tried it in so many different browsers.

Jack Irving: have been going through the healthcare.gov registration process.. actually just trying to figure out some straight facts and understand rates...

15 tries (with 3 different browsers) to actually get registered

5 tries to, once registration complete, to get to the log in screen

4 tries to get the login screen to accept info

7 tries on an application submittal.. which then led to a phone verification effort

Experian (3rd party) charged with verifying identity. Cannot, and will not verify without giving your SS# over the phone. No supervisors there. None. "we don't need supervision".. I ask how many are there without management of any kind? "I don't know quite a few.." STARTLING

Even the on-line application does not require me to give my SS#. Some random person at a call center is gonna get it?

And still, with all this, I cannot get any information on rates until I complete a 40 page on-line questionnaire. And don't stop or try and go back, edit or change anything. Every single time the system locks up. And, it loses every piece of info you've previously put in. Then start over and it locks up again on current healthcare info..

This is a massive clsuterfuck. I give up

[7:34:21 pm]: Welcome! You're now connected to Health Insurance Marketplace Live Chat.

Thanks for contacting us. My name is Cynthia. To protect your privacy, please don't provide any personal information, like Social Security Number, or any other sensitive medical or personal information.
    [7:34:37 pm]: Cynthia
Hello, how may I assist you today?
    [7:35:47 pm]: daryl
My application ID 107975411 was submitted on 10-02-2013 and when I try to view eligibility results I get a blank page
    [7:35:51 pm]: daryl
    https://www.healthcare.gov/.../DocumentFromECM...
    [7:36:44 pm]: Cynthia
I would be more than happy to assist you with that. To begin may I ask which state do you currently reside in?
    [7:37:02 pm]: daryl
    Texas
    [7:38:31 pm]: Cynthia
Thank you. One moment please while I look that up.
    [7:38:44 pm]: Cynthia
Thanks for your interest in the Health Insurance Marketplace. We have a lot of visitors trying to use our website right now. That is causing some glitches for some people trying to create accounts or log in. Keep trying, and thanks for your patience. You might have better success during off-peak hours, like later at night or early in the morning. We'll continue working to improve the site so you can get covered!
    [7:40:08 pm]: daryl
I have been getting this exact same response since 10/02 on both chat and phone and I am tired of it. I cannot resubmit my application and I can't delete the existing one. If there are millions of us signing up, why is mine broken?
    [7:40:38 pm]: daryl
I have tried all hours of day and night since midnight on the 2nd
    [7:41:18 pm]: Cynthia
I do apologize for any delays you may be experiencing. We are aware of the glitches and are currently working on resolving them. Unfortunately, we did not have confirmation of the exact time the glitches will be resolved. We are working on getting the site up and running as soon as possible.
    [7:41:21 pm]: daryl
I would like my issue escalated to the next support tier please
    [7:42:34 pm]: daryl
I have been way more then patient and I am getting nothing from support to help me.
    [7:43:03 pm]: daryl
I have wasted hours and hours sitting here being patient and logging in again and again and again
    [7:46:03 pm]: Cynthia
I do sincerely apologize, unfortunately we are aware of the glitches and are currently working on resolving them and having the website functioning properly as soon as possible.
    [7:46:53 pm]: daryl
But no one is helping me and I am unable to do anything. I want someone to actually help me and to do that my issue must be escalated to the support tier.
    [7:47:17 pm]: daryl
I'm all too aware of the glitches as well
    [7:48:15 pm]: daryl
If you are unable to assist me with my problem I would like to speak or chat with your manager tonight.
    [7:50:36 pm]: Cynthia
You may request to speak to a supervisor you may contact us at toll free at 1-800-318-2596.
    [7:51:18 pm]: daryl
Then may I please have a Support Ticket Number? If there is no support ticket created then I am not really being assisted.
    [7:53:54 pm]: Cynthia
I do apologize, unfortunately I do not have a ticket number.
    [7:54:23 pm]: daryl
So you are not really Support, right?
    [7:56:22 pm]: Cynthia
I do apologize, I am not technical support I am a customer service representative.
    [7:57:34 pm]: daryl
Then I need to be connected to Technical Support Cynthia
    [7:58:22 pm]: Cynthia
I'm sorry, we do not have a technical support to connect you to.
    [7:59:45 pm]: daryl
Then why bother having Chat Help? I know this isn't your fault but clearly there is no actual Help for the Exchanges. Good night Cynthia
    [8:00:13 pm]: Cynthia
Thank you for contacting Health Insurance Marketplace Live Chat. We are here to help you 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
[8:00:18 pm]: Your chat session is over. Thanks for contacting us, and we hope we've answered your questions. Have a great day.
    [8:00:18 pm]: 10/6/2013

Please explain to me how this helped me or anyone else?

This is what happens when you give government contracts to lowest bidders and insider connections.

If IBM or another known tech consulting firm took on this project, everything would run like clockwork.

Yep. And it was outsourced to a Canadian firm. They couldn't even get it "made in America!"

Canadian Firm Built Those Messed Up Obamacare Exchange Websites

Nice "jobs program for Canadians" Mr. President. You and your supporters are constantly criticizing business for offshoring functions and you do the same!

A Canadian tech firm that has provided service to that country's single-payer health care system is behind the glitch-ridden United States national health care exchange site healthcare.gov.

GCI Federal is a subsidiary of Montreal-based CGI Group. With offices in Fairfax, Va., the subsidiary has been a darling of the Obama administration, which since 2009 has bestowed it with $1.4 billion in federal contracts, according to USAspending.gov.

It's ok. They'll figure out the glitches. You have until the end of the year to enroll.

I think you actually have until March of next year to enroll. As for the glitches, maybe they're just rewriting the whole thing right now, as I really haven't seen any improvements in the problems reported since day 1.

Yeah, it's interesting that so many on here are so pro-Obamacare and all we hear from them now is *crickets* - I think they're totally shell shocked by the high prices that they are now forced to pay.

And the fact that the single most important piece of new technology that affects the entire country has just rolled out as a dud, that also has many on here unable to even muster a comment in its defense. That's also quite interesting.

Obamacare website looks "like nobody tested it," programmer says

Computer experts say the website has major flaws.

"It wasn't designed well, it wasn't implemented well, and it looks like nobody tested it," said Luke Chung, an online database programmer.

Chung supports the new health care law but said it was not the demand that is crashing the site. He thinks the entire website needs a complete overhaul.

"It's not even close. It's not even ready for beta testing for my book. I would be ashamed and embarrassed if my organization delivered something like that," he said.

I suspect most people on this forum who reside in the US already have access to healthcare. No need to visit the exchange websites.

    A good question he raises:

Bryan Wheeler: So, when's the site truly going to be fixed? And if most of us can't ever get on the site and try to sign up for coverage, are we all going to be fined at the end of the year?

Thank you for your patience. We know many of you are experiencing technical difficulties and we are working 24/7 to address these issues. Some improvements have been made to handle the high demand for HealthCare.gov, and we are working to do more every day. Remember, you have until December 15th to get coverage in January. And, you can also apply over the phone.

    Poor Jace:

Jace Shoemaker-Galloway: I have looked forward to affordable healthcare for Americans for sooo long. I have filled out my application at least 40 times and still have errors. Still waiting to be verified as well. I have called the hotline at least five times. Extremely frustrated at this juncture.

well, he COULD spend 2 minutes getting verified and accomplish - what? OR, he can do nothing and annoy you just as effectively.

From a simple cost/benefit standpoint, the second choice is the way to go.
