Some research has suggested it's a 5-year itch. But the break-up often doesn't come right away, due to reconciliation attempts, and a reluctance to accept such radical change in one's life. So the outside world sees the marriage fall apart at around 7 years, but it was already crumbling at 5.

It shouldn't be surprising if gay men experience the same roving & restless behavior as straight men. And without parental responsibilities in many cases, to keep them together, it would be easier for gay men to split. Therefore this gay divorce statistic is neither unexpected to me, nor very alarming.

The family law bar should be thrilled at the business prospects of homosexual marriage, especially in community property states such as California.

"Figures from the Office for National Statistics also showed that lesbian couples are markedly more likely to dissolve civil partnerships than gay men.
Family lawyers said that the patterns mirrored those for heterosexual couples in which marriages which break down typically do so between four and eight years in, with women are more likely to file for divorce than men."

    Interesting.

Gay divorce ought to be around the same level as straight divorce. That's equality!

Actually, community property is fairly cut-and-dried. It's the custody proceedings that rack up the big $$.

As I tell my straight friends about bisexuality ... it doubles their dating pool, same goes for a homosexual marriage and ones gone bad. And true, community property is pretty straight forward, sans prenups and all of that, and certainly simpler than what we have here in a dowry state (Ohio). Still boom times for the family law bar.

For the gay couples who have kids, let's just hope that Parental Alienation Syndrome won't be as common in the LGBTQ community as it is in the straight community.
