    Based on the book

    True or False?

    1) Shepard was murdered by two homophobic bigots, who Shepard did not know prior to the night of the murder.

"Shepard was murdered by McKinney, a bisexual who not only knew Shepard but previously had sex with him.
Henderson, who tried to stop McKinney from killing Shephard, was himself attacked by McKinney."

    2) Shepard was HIV-positive and had been arrested for molesting young boys.

    True.

    3) Substance abuse played no known role in Shepard's life and death.

"Shepard and McKinney were both meth dealers. 'Matthew was part of an interstate meth-trafficking circle,' writes Jimenez. McKinney was 'first his friend and occasional sex partner, then his competitor and adversary, and finally his killer.'"

    4) The motive for murdering Matthew Shepard was simply hate.

"McKinney was on a meth-fueled rampage. He pistol-whipped Shepard for drug money, drove into town to rob Shepard's apartment, and then pistol-whipped a stranger who got in his way, fracturing his skull in the process."

    5) Media coverage of the Matthew Shepard case is generally considered to have been fair and objective.

"The media lied about the case from day one."

    6) The author, Stephen Jiminez, is a suspected homophobe and is probably just trying to tarnish the reputation of a key figure in the gay rights/anti-hate-crime movement.

Jiminez is gay and is sharing the results of many years of research into the life and death of Matthew Shepard.

    7) There are parallels between the media treatment of Trayvon Martin and Matthew Shepard.

Jack Cashill makes a convincing case.

Interesting , from that last link provided above:

"Indeed, The Book of Matt: Hidden Truths About the Murder of Matthew Shepard is the work of Stephen Jimenez, one of the producers of an ABC News “20/20” report in 2004 that was widely criticized by other journalists, gay-rights organizations and the Shepard family for its factual inaccuracies and distortions, as well as its clear bias. For instance, ABC News failed to reveal to its viewers that Jimenez was a longtime friend of the defense attorney for McKinney co-defendant Russell Henderson who, when he pitched the story to ABC producers, had already reached his sensational conclusions — long before ABC’s reporters had begun doing actual investigative work."

    http://mediamatters.org/blog/2013/10/02/debunking-stephen-jimenezs-effort-to-de-gay-mat/196229
...Jimenez's argument is tainted by its reliance on wild extrapolation, the use of highly questionable and often inconsistent sources, paranoia that critics of his work are engaged in a "cover-up" of politically sensitive truths, and the cavalier dismissal of any evidence that runs contrary to his central thesis...

I'm not sure about this one.

I saw one of these nightly news programs and the ex-girlfriend and friend of one of McKinney said he was bi. But he denies it.

    Why do you bother, Doug?

Because he claims to be a Catholic Christian in a state of Grace (complete abstinence)so he's being held to that. It's rather amusing, although I do get momentary twinges of pity for him.

mindgarden: Turns out to be baloney. Old baloney.

"Reducing a complex motive to a single element in a murder which involved drugs, money, and sexuality is hardly the “essence of responsible journalism” at a time when hate crimes are on the rise."

    http://journalism.nyu.edu/publishing/archives/recount/article/95/

The quote is from an article referenced by MediaMatters.

Which side reduces "a complex motive to a single element"? The Left.

    CopperDevil: Are those thing true?

Aristoshark: No, they are a well-rehearsed pack of lies.

Take your choice -- A 368-page book based on a thirteen-year investigation by an author who traveled to twenty states and interviewed more than a hundred sources, OR the know-it-all talking fish.

Just as a gay person can write a homophobic book for the cash it might bring him, disregarding what pain that might cause the Shepard family & friends.

Just as a bisexual person can kill a gay person, disregarding all respect for his victim, for his victim's family & friends, for his own family and for the family of humanity.

It doesn't take a political genius to figure out that regardless of your political leanings, your post denigrating the memory of Matthew Shepard couldn't be more inappropriate to a forum of gay men.

What does that have to do with the thread or JF possibly getting torn a new asshole this week?

Nothing quite like such a ruffled feather to confirm a suspicion.

I guess people are starting to figure him out. He seems to be getting nervous.

Fails, I've had that scum on ignore since my first encounter with it. I'm pretty good at averting my eyes to most quoted crap that isn't worth a read. But if you continue to quote it again with any reference to me that might draw my attention, I'll be putting you onto ignore too. Nothing personal. I'm all for free association. You play in whatever toilet you want. Thank you.

Pretty much anything JockItch posts is 100% lies. I'm not sure if this is true or not (although I doubt it), but the main thing is it's really low-class to talk shit about the dead when they are not here to defend themselves.

Fear free speech? Maybe it is this thing called respect.

Just like if someone were to go into a synagogue and scream "Hitler rules!" Free speech, yes, but you deserve to get lynched for it.

Reducing to a single motive? The douchebag author admits that McKinney attacked 3 people, yet one is dead. His reasoning, pure coincidence? Yea, that is bullshit right there.

I read excerpts from it, all his "evidence" is purely anecdotal and, quite frankly, he is grasping for straws with his argument.

Like I said, people like Jockfever should be banned.

I agree. Why should he be banned? HE didn't write the book, he just brought up the book for discussion here.
