Even if I had the body to wear some of those, I'd be too skittish to, I'd feel exposed, lol.

Article: good for a cheap laugh/perv.

In practice: "I bring nothing to the table except my aesthetics."

Am I the only person who prefers the traditional costumes? Every time I see a half naked gay man at Halloween he just has "desperate" written all over his face. It's sad when you can't even enjoy a fun holiday like Halloween without making it all about sex.

theplanedonecrashed saidoversexualization of gay men again. if someone actually dresses like this, it shows how they value themselves. halloween is supposed to be fun. why come to some party looking like you're ready for an orgy? icon_neutral.gif i actually hate how being gay is another word for sex object. if you can't even celebrate halloween, christmas or new years without being half naked or basically naked for attention where some guys treat you like a sex object..... icon_neutral.gif where's the self respect?

Lighten up, bud. It's all just for fun. ...and I liked the dweeb sailor better, too. So you see?

I dressed as a dark angel a couple years ago, very provocative and the costume rocked. Only thing I didn't care for was barely eating.

This year I just want to eat so opted for Mrs. Roper.icon_smile.gif

Gay men are obsessed with sex and realjock men are obsessed with muscle.
It's odd, true, but an accepted state.
(And no one is saying it's *all* that counts.)
You've got the body for it.
I'll be waiting for a picture of your Halloween costume for my upcoming Halloween thread.

I read that article too. I think its fun to put a sexy twist on your outfit. It makes it spicy. At the same time i think you should put creativity into it instead of making it blatantly obvious you want to be shirtless. I'm going as a greek God Antinous, and the costume is long and flowy, but revealing at the same time ( you'll see what i mean when i post pics ). However some people should never be shirtless/revealing ... a couple of years ago this guy tried to be a spartan warrior and wore a red loin cloth and nothing else, he had a flabby body and was drunk before the party even started and was twirling around so everyone could see his " goodies ".

ScruffyPup and theplanedonecrashed can come with me to the regular bars. I've already decided on an un-sexy costume and I'm not changing my mind to fit in.

Its not just about " fitting In " why should those of us who are want to wear provocative outfits be chastised for doing so ? And to say that ' straight ' people dont do the same things on halloween is very incorrect. I've been to MANY holloween stores and parties and events, there is a halloween costume company called " leg avenue " and its main costume design is short and revealing. Anyway i think any gay men that think that gay culture should be censored or the sexual expression should be hushed is kidding themselves. The Gay minority group is defined by or sexual desire and romantic emotions ... Why wouldnt there be alot of sexual expression in the culture ??? It makes sense ! Now obviously you dont have to let that make you a slut or nasty person, but that dosent mean the rest of us who are comfortable with sexual expression should be hushed.

Never said that straight people don't do it. Anyone can buy or make a sexy costume. The difference being that there is no expectation for heterosexual males to dress provocatively. They have the option to, but they can get buy with a well recognized character or humorous costume too. Unfortunately it is the expectation for young heterosexual females. The perspective that I'm taking is that they should not feel obligated to exploit their sexuality just because it's trendy.

I haven't been to a gay bar on Halloween, so I can't speak from experience. But based on what I've been hearing, there appears to be the same kind of expectation in gay bars. To add to that, gay men seem to be comfortable crossing the line between sexy and tasteless. Of course the point at which that line is crossed is subjective, but I often feel like asking someone, why not leave something to the imagination, you know?

I have never herd that this was an obligation for gay men, i dont feel obligated its just fun. I get what your saying but my thing is this, there is no " gay rule " that we should dress that way and thats why i dint see the problem. So when you come into a forum talking about this obligation the only thing i can think of is the oppression of sexual expression. If we are all adults in an adult setting and no one is getting hurt whats the problem ? Its all in good fun. its really not supposed to be taken that seriously.
