basically the musculature in my upper back is much less than anywhere else, all the exercises i do seem to target deltoids, lat dorsi etc, but none seem to directed to the rhomboid area. are there any exercises that target this area specifically?

Besides the great suggestions on the top article found by Caslon's search, you can try scapular retractions. Do a google search for them and you'll find lots of variations.

Answer: the dreaded chin ups. I have added them to my work out but at first they seem really tough. But i remember when dips seemed tough too. Its just a different kind of training that engages lots of muscles working in unison and takes a lot of energy to perform right. It looks like i am going to drop bench pressing to work min the pull ups and chin ups. .
