Not at all helpful, especially since it's an 'artist' that so many young people look up to.

"More than six minutes long and chockfull of lightning-fast braggadocio, "Rap God" -- off the upcoming album "The Marshall Mathers LP 2" -- includes Eminem boasting in the first verse about how he'd like to "break a motherf----r's table over the back of a couple faggots and crack it in half." Later on in the second verse, the rapper includes the following description in a long riff on different kinds of "boys":"

"Little gay-looking boy / So gay I can barely say it with a straight face-looking boy / You witnessing massacre like you watching a church gathering taking place-looking boy / 'Oy vey, that boy's gay,' that's all they say looking-boy / You take a thumbs up, pat on the back, the way you go from your label every day-looking boy."

what on earth is a "home boy"? He's 41. Did you mean homo boy? Always possible, but in this case, I very much doubt it.

my homeboy is no different than saying my friend. i can see past that because i think he's one talented lyricist, enjoy some of his albums, and can relate to him and his lyrics. to me, he's in my top 5 greatests rappers list. yeah, eminem says homophobic shit. there's a lot of homophobic music artist out there. if we were to run down, your favorite artists would be on it. homophobia is the way of the world unfortunately and you just have to forgive people for their ignorance because they don't understand.

Jim Morrison would have been a possibility, but I've never heard anything out of the others that would indicate that being true.

I don't think any of my favorites embody the hate speech that rap routinely does. We simply didn't do that back then.

I posted many of my favorites many times here on RJ and I very much doubt that you would find any hate speech directed at any group or anyone ... not the way we roll.

failscarf saidI thought it was been established that he was a homophobe (and a racist)....... except when he showed his cakes or rimmed Sasha Cohen.

I don't know anything about him. I think I've heard of him, but other than that, I know nothing.

Still, the point being that it's unnecessary and not helpful.

I stand corrected. I vaguely remembered this, but couldn't pin point who it was. They weren't one of my favorites though, although I do have many or all of their albums, but with 13,000 albums that can be said of a bunch of groups.

    Not what I said.

prejudice is the way of the world. hell, nobody's perfect. look @ this forum full of misogynists, racists, sexists, and prejudiced folks. yo.... whenever i tell a straight person about the issues amongst gay men such as racism, they give me the icon_eek.gif face like damn. yeah, i'll rant about stop ignorance BUT truth be told, it's a lost cause. nobody's perfect, nobody knows everything and etc. doesn't justify someone's behavior or attitude BUT what can you do about it? sad to say this BUT i expect people to be ignorant and prejudice. you just gotta learn to deal with it and check yourself from doing the same shit that other people do. sometimes, with all the hate and ignorance, it's hard not to become that way yourself where you end up feeling a certain way. that's when it's time for a reality check like damn... i don't want to be like them. even that isn't enough because i'll have an ignant moment myself because i'm uneducated about something.

    guess it's human nature.

Truth be told .. or I should say my opinion of the truth, I agree, but I will almost always point it out if nothing else. And I agree that RJ can be, much of the time, much worse than RL or at least what I experience in my RL, but I'm sure that's true with much of what you read online.

Still not acceptable and we collectively have a long way to go. We don't need pop culture icons like this guy presumably is, setting examples like this. He knows better.

"if we were to run down, your favorite artists would be on it"

I did just relisten to my top five or ten (of course that changes a bit depending on my mood), and no, there's none of it.

just because you couldn't find any songs doesn't mean that they're not homophobic.

True, I can't read their mind, but 60s classic rock, psychedelic, surf, etc., was leading the way out of the abyss of sexism (misogyny), racism and I don't know how many actually had their arms around the concept of homosexuality.

There was sure enough queeriosity in those days though and I'm not sure anyone thought much of it. And many of us had bromantic relationships or as some psychologists used to refer to it ... practice marriages

    ^this

but I don't think Elton will be very happy, I do know where this guy hails from, the only saving grace the state of Michigan has for homos is Madge, and she didn't stay, she knew better

M&M is 41 and is still trying to lure his young, young followers as depicted in "No Love"

My 19 and 17 year old white suburbian nephews are high school dropouts, were disrespectful to their teachers, brought weapons to school, do drugs, drink, speak and write Ebonics, wear saggy pants showing underwear, both use fag or gay inappropriately without discipline from parents, both been in trouble with the law, jail time, rehab, are M&M and lil wayne (I guess they are called wiggers by some) ganstas fans, their mother (my sister) is a tea party fanatic, their father and husband is the son of a Baptist minister

Suffice it to say, I am a bit disappointed with the example M&M is setting for yesterdays and todays lost youth, not to mention my sisters family is fucked up, I will not have these young men my "friends" on FB, they will die young without me ever knowing them icon_rolleyes.gif

wow, they actually have a Wiki for that, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wigger

I missed that. Actually, he can say whatever he wants, to a degree, but the question is .... should he? I'm of the opinion that he should invoke that internal filter of his (if he has one) and not make comments like that. Bad enough that he thinks that without verbalizing it. It's not helpful. It's unnecessary and hurtful to some.

Jaggal saidActually, I don't care if you respect my opinion or not , but unlike your homeboy, I don't encourage gay bashing or hate speech. When kids are brutally beaten because of encouraging words of "lil wayne" and "eminem", that speaks volumes.

    You got it!!!

That must be why corporations pay millions for celebrity product endorsements, because kids DON'T listen to these people. icon_rolleyes.gif

and if we held entertainers, movie companies, video game companies and entertainment outlets responsible for what other people do including kids, there would BE no entertainment at all.

whatever happened to parents being responsible for their kids. you don't think that the parents are capable of parenting? is that it?

You're making a false argument. Parents are indeed responsible for their children. But neither should public figures provide incentives & prompts that encourage children, or even adults, to condone bigotry & hatred. Why should parents even be required to ride herd on trash like Eminem?

That's why we have age ratings on TV & movie offerings, why children are restricted from adult images and reading material. Yes, parents have a responsibility, but that responsibility is also expressed collectively, in our laws and policies.

So that Eminem's prejudices are offensive, and should be protested, and his work boycotted. Parents have enough to do, without having to block this idiot's message from their children.

IDK about all that because the stunt seems to be working. These controversies help push his projects to multiplatinum every time. Music critics are giving the single rave reviews left and right. Haven't seen this much buzz over an Em track in years.

Rap God Wiki"Rap God" was met with generally positive reviews from music critics. Critics praised the song's lyrical content, rapping speed, and production. Per Lijas of Time gave the song a positive review, stating that "the world can expect an immortal recording" based on "Rap God" and the album's lead single, "Berzerk".[14] Jim Farber of the Daily News compared the song to The Marshall Mathers LP, stating that the song "revives the super-sick humor of that era, which comes as a relief after all the internalizations and ruminating of Em’s more recent work".[15] Kory Grow of Rolling Stone also gave the song a positive review, praising that instead of "giving his chorus to an R&B crooner like Rihanna or the New Royales' Liz Rodrigues", "he instead delivers a straight rap refrain about feeling like a rap deity. His verses recall hip-hop history ... as much as his own history".[4] Nick Hill of Contact Music praised the song's rhyming and lyrical content. He exclaimed that the verse beginning at 4:20 best displays Eminem's rapping abilities.

Some people in the biz are complaining

Eminem's homophobic 'Rap God' lyrics: Still getting away with it? http://music-mix.ew.com/2013/10/17/eminem-rap-god-lyrics/

“Eminem is every bit the same lazy, offensive bile-spewer he was back then,” “a grown-ass middle-aged man” who should know better.

why does a 41 year old man attract little boys with his lyrics? maybe he is rebelling the bizz-ness casting couch and had to suck a few bizz-ness mans cocks along his career, which he probably didn't want to do

Little gay-looking boy / So gay I can barely say it with a straight face-looking boy / You witnessing massacre like you watching a church gathering taking place-looking boy / ‘Oy vey, that boy’s gay,’ that’s all they say looking-boy / You take a thumbs up, pat on the back, the way you go from your label every day-looking boy.

I attempt these lyrical acrobat stunts while I’m practicing that / I’ll still be able to break a motherfuckin’ table / Over the back of a couple of faggots and crack it in half / Only realized it was ironic I was signed to Aftermath after the fact
