Now that the gluttony is over (mmm, pie), I was wondering if anyone had experience or advice on building an outdoor gym in my backyard. I'm going to put in a fixed pull-up bar, couple benches, free weights, power rack, and as budget allows, some sort of cable pulley system.

I also want to hang a heavy bag, but I don't know if they're typically waterproof. I don't want it to turn into concrete after a rain and inadvertently break my hand on it.

Anybody done anything like this, things to stay away from, tips, etc.?

    Thanks!

I only know the outdoor stuff we had in the Army, and you've planned most of it, except perhaps a horizontal ladder. As for the bag, why does it have to stay outdoors 24/7? Hang it with a snap-ring, and take it inside when you're done.

If you have a strong tree high enough you might try a rope climb. We would put a sand pit under this, and under the chin-up bar if it was high, too. A slant board with a foot bar is good for sit-ups and crunches, and a box to raise your feet for head-down push-ups.
