I'm just glad a site like this exists. It's comforting to hit the site up. It gets lonely in the world some time and it feels good to know that there are so many cool guys who are like me in one place.

    So thanks, REALJOCK.

OK, I'm not going to make fun of your crazy profile picture.... seriously, many of us feel the same way. RJ is a refreshing site that proves that gay guys can and do enjoy just a nice social networking site without constantly being hit on, sexual references and inconsiderate comments. Yes, there's some on here but for the most part, guys are nice, topics are varied, friendships are made and guys are truly considerate! Thanks RJ (all of you)!

I came here after hearing about this as being a 'health & fitness' site. I never thought of it as a dating site, but I met my s.o. here. We communicated a bit in Forums off & on for a year or so, then decided to talk by phone once - and that went well, so it became an every night thing for awhile. Then we decided to meet in person, which took a bit of planning, since we lived on opposite ends of the country (U.S.). We finally met at an airport and spent a week together, over & over. Finally we decided he would move to CA with me. Thanks to R.J. How else would we have met, if not for this site?

Moi aussi. It's the gay social site to which I've belonged the longest.

And it always amuses me that this is a jock site. And yet the members are the smartest and most erudite of any site I've ever known, gay or straight. So much for jock stereotypes, at least gay ones.

Maybe it has to do with the fitness focus, popular with gays, or sports, but whatever the reason the guys here are so clever & accomplished! They run rings around me.

And my late mother, and my husband's grandmother, always preached that you should only associate with people smarter than yourself, because that's how you improve. Dumber people may make you feel superior, but they contribute little to you. You learn from those smarter.

RJ is a surprisingly smart site. And I've been to lots. It's why I remain.

    Agreed...

It's a long and sordid story about how I found this site... but once I got into it, I found a variety of decent folks, all fitness conscious, and made a few friends in the process.

    haha love the pix AMH.

I came here partly because of my interest in working out but mostly because I'd isolated myself for a long time from 'the gay community' and wanted to sort of check in to see what was going on. It is interesting to see that on one hand nothing much has changed. There is still a lot of bitchyness and cattiness, etc. Young guys who really aren't yet ready for big R Relationships are still lamenting that they can't find one. Etc. But some things have changed. I see more openness and willingness to discuss issues important to us, even if we disagree. I see a lot of interest in getting to know and trying to understand people who are different from ourselves. The fact that this community is international in scope is a plus.

The down side is most of us are so far apart it is difficult to meet people in RL. Some, even when they're close, are reluctant to 'go there'. I've enjoyed the RJ meet-ups I've gone to and recommend others try and set them up in their own local. Online interactions have their place but they can't be a substitute for real friends in real life.

RJ is just a microcosm of the world at large except it affords a level of anonymity that allows people to be who they really are. It's sad to think of the number of snarky, rude, calous folks that are really out there in real life but social conventions reign them in so we really don't get to know who they are.
