Looks like Timlin's going on the DL and the Red Sox will open the season with 34 year old Julian Tavarez as their closer.

Tavarez is the poster-boy baseball journeyman, with a bit of a temper and had a 4.47 ERA last year. Timlin's supposed to be out a short time, but I'd be suprised if the RedSox don't try to pick up someone before opening day.

Red Sox had a infamous Oriole-style collapase last season. I think they need a lot more regrouping to get back to their former glory. The O's have never been able to get there after their disastrous Paleirmo season.

I've never understood why the Orioles can't get it together. They've got a great ballpark and tremendous fan base, but from Palmeiro to Sosa to Tejada, they never seem to make the right move to get the American League East more than a 2-team race and last year the BlueJays made it back to a 3-team race, with the Orioles and Devil Rays hopelessly out of it by July.

Baltimore had better get a few "star" players in there or else the Nationals phenomenon will steal their fan base and Camden Yards will start lookin' mighty empty.

RedSox can weather the storm for a few weeks, but they can't let this problem linger or else they can find themselves 12 games out by June and the Yankees and Jays can run away with the race.
