    Story Highlights

Taj had heightened security in response to warning, Tata group chairman says

Just before attacks, however, security relaxed somewhat, Ratan Tata says

""They knew what they were doing, and they did not go through the front. All of our arrangements are in the front," he said.

"They planned everything," he said of the attackers. "I believe the first thing they did, they shot a sniffer dog and his handler. They went through the kitchen." "

So they were prepared if the terrorists that they had been warned about came and rang the doorbell first! ... icon_rolleyes.gif ... But they even relaxed that. ... icon_eek.gif

Sheesh, hotels like the Taj must get a lot of threats per year, of course they wouldn't know which is serious and which is not. I don't think the blame can reasonably be put on hotel security.

I agree that for an attack of this sophistication and planning, the hotel security prolly wouldnt have made much difference.....

but then again....at least lock the other doors....and dont secure your hotel like they are only going to come in thru the front door! ... icon_rolleyes.gif

The main entrances to the Taj have metal detectors and people to check bags, and they are used.

No adequate security measures exist for terrorism on this level of sophistication.

People who are willing to die have been getting through airport security (single point of entrance) for decades and we have yet to fully stop it.

The Taj is a city block square.

What is impressive is that Ratan Tata is such a highly-responsible man.

Gee whiz I didn't see Donald Rumsfeld taking responsibility and resigning his job after 9/11. DIck Cheney was at an undisclosed location and never has said "we could have done a better job".

Mr. Tata lost people he actually KNEW on a working basis and he shows enormous courage. There is a reason he is so respected, he deserves to be.
