I sent the station the following e-mail:
Thank you for covering the anti-gay incident where the waiter was not tipped! I am sure your coverage has helped many to respond in a positive way to a dreadful example of homophobia. But may I raise several points?
You begin by say this is a "controversy." It's not - it's an example of raw bigotry and ignorance.
You refer to the waiter's "gay lifestyle." Being gay is no more a "lifestyle" than being heterosexual. it is a life, lived by someone who happens to be gay.
You refer to the pastor's "homosexual partner." This puts the emphasis, in most minds, on sex, not partnership, and it detracts, in most minds, from the very good, Christian things he says.
Again, thank you for your coverage, which has gone national. But please try to cover incidents which effect gay persons as incidents - not as gay.
