Amazing, I once had a surf & turf at the Manor, lobster tail & prime rib, and it was also very good. Don't know the NYC place.

But not sure what's my absolute best. Had great steaks at the Grey Moss Inn north of San Antonio, TX, cooked over an open pit with mesquite. And some good ones in Germany, where they import much of their beef from Argentina.

I know it's a chain, but Ruth's Chris can do an amazing job. One of my favorites.

But truth be told, nothing beats the backyard bbq. You know exactly when to pull it off, and it has that nice smokey flavor.

    In my house!

I'm Panamanian and my Mom cooks the best flipin food! Gah I love how she makes steak. Like fancy-panty steak houses and high end restaurants just don't cut it...Although I may be bais...

Well, it depends. I like Ruth's Chris, but the best steak I've ever had was a Shrimp steak at a local restaurant - Castelli's. It's just a shrimp, but they're so huge I'm sure you can classify it as a steak.

Best in the world - according to me:

    Tie:

1.) Peter Lugers Steakhouse - Brooklyn New York
2.) Zentners Steakhouse - San Angelo Texas

I don't waste too much time reminiscing about ephemeral things like meals. However, I did recently have the most amazing steak at a little run-down dive of a logger bar in Klickitat. The mill is closed and it's about 30 miles off the highway, so not much is going on up there. It looked like the sort of place that I'd immediately turn and leave - dirty, yellowing paint, ceiling held up with 2x4 props. The bit of the kitchen visible through the swinging door looked extremely nasty. But my friends insisted.

The steaks were incredible. Certainly among the best I've ever had... though served on mis-matched place settings on a dirty bar, between the video poker machines. It turns out that they raise their own cattle, which are custom-butchered there in town. Also, you had to show ID for dessert, because every cheesecake contained a whole bottle of liquor.

It's kind of an "Up Yours, Yuppie Scum," kind of place.

There's one near us in Fort Lauderdale, but I normally avoid chains. With your recommendation, I'll try it.

i've been to better restaurants than Ruth Chris Steak House, but when i do, i usually order rack of lamb ;) so i'd say the best filet i've had has been at Ruth Chris (in Annapolis, MD). which is where i was last night- for my dad's 50th. icon_smile.gif it had crab meat on top and was sizzling in butter- medium rare and still breathing haha- omG it was good

Ruth Chris's steakhouse in Toronto. Expensive and not healthy but boy was the food good. I treated my partner their for our anniversary two or three years ago. Reading this thread is making my mouth water. Maybe we will go back there soon. Yes that would make me happy. icon_biggrin.gif

Lawry's the Prime Rib in Beverly Hills (okay it's prime rib) is my #1 for meat. Second is L.G.'s Steakhouse in Palm Desert or, like a lot of guys above, the cow floating in butter at Ruth's Chris.

CraftSteak New York. They serve Wagyu, but it's damn pricey.
